feeding
is it ok for me to feed my plants from the top of the soil?i have heard that the soil pushes down and sufficates the roots. is that right?

You're fine watering top-down. Once the fluid drains down it sucks air into the spaces (you can hear it) so the roots are fine, and loving it (nute and air= happy root).
