If I'm guna be doing a long cure I make sure my buds are bit dryer than usual ta prevent mold. And whn I'm rdy ta blaze I'll put a couple fresh pot leaves in the jar for a day, always brings back the moisture level and I've nvr had to worry about mold. It's also true that sometimes cured nugs have no smell untill ya break thm apart, thn wow killer aroma. But certain strains I won't cure longer than a week or two because I prefer the taste and aroma better. But I dnt mean fresh plant smell lol I'm talkn sweet fruity spicy funk that sometimes all but disapears.

I have noticed that indicas need more time in the jar to smooth out the ruff and bringout the flavor/aroma, where as sativas tend to be the ones that smell decreases with a long cure.

im willing to bet your buds were a little to wet when you jarred them. I have discoverd you really need to get them bone dry before the cure, because once you jar them you will discover they are never truely bone dry, until you cure

Trust me bro we I'm ready ta jar/cure my buds not only can ya snap the stem with a crack but ya can crumble the buds to a nice fluffy pile (not to a powder). Like I said I makesure my nugs are bone dry before the cure so much so that I add a fresh leaf or two to the jar 24 hours before smokin any. Peace

I think Trillion might be on to something here. I have noticed that some resin glands ahem rubbed between the fingers feels oily, almost watery. While others are more sticky or tacky. Well I jst went in my room and rubbed a shade leaf with crystal on it from a few diff plants and what do ya know, one of the strains whch the aroma weakns ovr time had the oily/water resin and my strain VV, whch gets stinkier and more dank as time goes on is a sticky mofo lol. I know that's not science but hey it seems interesting atleast.

I've noticed that strains lose some of their initial aroma over time, but the potency as well as the overall complexity to the aroma seems to get better with proper cure and storage. My Grape Krush is definitely better tasting and smelling over the long term, but I've had strains that just smell like resin after so long.
Interesting observation on the tackiness of your resin, Redskywalker. Some strains seem to have little stick where others won't unstick from my fingers! I would think that the combination of essential oils, terpines, etc would have some effect on a given strains stick factor.

It could be that it is being dried too quickly and too dry. Try SLIGHTLY, rehydrating some nuggs in a humidor or else be inventive but don't get it "wet" . I've taken a cotton ball wet it in water then squeezed while shaking it, tied it to mono fillament string at top of mason jar with buds half full in jar. Let sit over night not more than 8 - 10 hrs. remove ball cover let sit one day then try it. It has improved taste/flavor in the past for me. Just a thought, Peace

I notice when the buds get too dry, they start to lose there smell. However, they will still smell strong when you crack them. It's just that the resin on the outside gets dry so the smell isn't that noticeable after a long cure.

I've noticed the opposite with mine actually and only since starting hydro. The trichs that have that wet/oily feeling have a stronger smell after cure than the plants with the really hard sticky trichs. Its so weird because the plants witht he sticky trichs smell A LOT stronger while growing.
