Decrease in Aroma & Flavor with Increase in Curing Time, What Gives?
I have noticed that with some strains the Flavor & Aroma are way stronger when they've only been dry for a week. Then when I put them in jars and cure them for a few weeks to a month the smell & taste changes to more mellow. Although the smoke itself does get smoother. Is there anyway to maybe maintain that initial amazing aroma/taste? Ideas?

Oh I should add my drying/curing method so ya can tell me what I might do diff.
When I chop my plants I do so after having them in the dark for 24-48 hours then chop and hang with all shades leaves off in a cool dark room wth good air flow. I only need to hang them for a week because whr I am it's kinda dry and they would get too crispy. Then after a week I put them right into jars whr I keep them in
the dark and open/close them everyday several times when needed. Then after a week of that thr stored like wine lol ta age for another few weeks.

i think the resin in some strains drys out after a long cure, not always a bad thing...
also i think if your jars arent full enough it can cause the bud to dry too much

Kewleo my jars are always full but not squished. One would thnk that water based aroma/flavor molecules would degrade when tried out I guess that could explain it some what.

I think that might just be the way some strains are. What about when you crack your nugs open?

My bud usually comes out with that wet, heavy, fresh smell - I don't get that dank, minty whiff until I start cracking buds.
I actually think some of it may have more to do with manicuring technique - machine trimmers that buzz down all the leaves off the bud tend to smell more like minty, dank pot right away than the heavy, wet, fresh harvest smell of hand-manicured bud.

I find this to be true also with some strains but i believe that that sweet freash flavor is just from all the chlorophyl not being broken down completely in the dying process....

I am having the same problem right now. I switched from soil to hydro last run and the buds didn't come out with much flavor to begin with which Ive been told is pretty common in hydro. But after a month cure the smoke is smooth as can be with NO taste at all. Not even a hint of taste in some of it. The smell has also been decreased substantially. The same strains grown in soil would have to be double bagged and now after the cure theres nothing. They look wonderful and take you to the moon but its just lacking the taste and smell that I love. Even the bubba doesn't have much taste and thats usually over powering.

A buddy of mine was just talking about this phenomenon. He grew some orangey-citrus smelling dank flowers a few months back and now what's left doesn't have quite the same smell or flavor.
He told me that he cuts thin strips of lemon, lime, or orange rind (no white pith) and puts them in his jars. He keeps them sealed for 24 hours, then opens them for an hour, fluffs them up a bit, and reseals them after picking out the dried up rind. Apparently, introducing a bit of moisture perks them up again. Of course, if you're bringing moisture back to your dryed out buds you'll want to be vigilant and watch out for mold. Hope that helps.
Peace.

I've been doing this for years.
Take any strain, add the lemon or orange zest or some blueberries - wait 24 hours in the fridge or what-have-you, and then you can have Orange Kush or Lemon Tart or Blueberry Passion or whatever - regardless of the herbal genetics.
Cheesy trick I guess, but it seems to make smokers happy.
