MILFORD, Connecticut - Smoke billowing from the walls of a Meadow Street home Tuesday led firefighters to an altered closet where marijuana was being cultivated, authorities said.
Police arrested four residents of the home and seized 40 grams of the drug, a ventilation system, heat lamps, fans and paraphernalia used to ingest marijuana.
Leslie Defrancesco, 29, Ethan Mayo, 33, James Leclair, 33 and Michael Mikiens, 32 are charged with operating a drug factory, cultivation of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy.
Leclair and Mikiens are also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana within 1500 feet of public housing.
All four suspects were released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 26.
Acting Fire Capt. Christopher Zak said a heat lamp ignited burlap netting covering the marijuana plants.
The fire had burned out by the time firefighters arrived, but smoke was still showing, he said. Firefighters began overhauling the walls to look for hidden fire and found an altered closet where the marijuana was being grown, he said.
