Default Can You believe I found THIS @ the DUMP?????

This is the carcass of a Magnavox AM/FM/Phonograph/TV(optional) circa 1950 :
(5th one down0(http://www.antiqueradiomuseum.org/consoleradios.htm
I found at the "Transfer Station". Solid, hardwood construction. Was mostly gutted, some water damage on the top. I've alresdy removed some of the internals, this is some quality wood.
Was thinking about a step-by-step DIY on a cabinet project. Anyone interested?

So, this throws a new light about our forefathers listening to the radio back in the fifties... Looks really cool and offers good possibilities, as well as a cabinet it might do a nice drying and curing box, with the fan in the back an' all. I like recycling stuff too, but i ain't too complicated. When a friend watched my newly finished cabinet he said "wow, you must have worked in that for a whole quarter of an hour". Well... it doesn't take much to pull tape and hold sticks, i'm just after the bud.
Good luck with it, pretty decorative too,

hello mate nice find.. (anyone ever watched that slavager bloke on discovery H&L!? Bet hes got some sweet stelth cupboards!! you know the one i mean short bloke biker looks like hes got a nice quater on him at all times!) any way im ausming you have acess to basic DIY tools..

first 'gut' the cup board.
remove the selfs i think the best way without seeing the unit would be to use a normal hardpoint wood saw takeing your time and letting the teeth of the saw do the work.

The divide down the center could be left creating a dual growing space aplying the following steps to both sides, doing this you could have two crops being ready to harvest at diffrent times. not knowing your smoke needs or wat lighting EQ you have at your disposal it would be hard to tell you wat would be best to do...

Personally i would remove the divide as due to the space as you will never get any real quantiy of bud out of such a small space... bearing in mind i love a smoke so enough is never enough!

Next paint the interior with a white emlusion

Now for the back of the cupoard either fit a peice of board thin MDF or marine ply to make a new back plate for the unit. paint this let it dry then fix it either with tacks or 'no-nails adhesvie'

Your next promblem will be light excaping from the gaps you could fill these with a silcon gun and a mould resitant mastic /selante, however opening the doors may prove difficult depending on how the are hung, to over come this try duck tape, or for the gap in the doors tape some mylar or something light proof so it overlaps the gap from the inside.

I would leave the base (youll proably cause too much damage removing it) and drill though it to create a space in which your pots will sit, im also asuming your organic. For this you need a drill and a 4" hole saw or take your empty pot draw round it, then use a small drill bit and drill a load of small holes or a few then use a pad saw to cut out the rest. Looking at the space you should get about 6/ 8 small plant in there in 5lter pots. Then you can move the plants in and out for inspection, and around the grow space so one plant isnt always directly infrount of the fan.

You will proberbly need an extractor fan. ( Dont skimp on this as the cheaper ones will be louder i think around £28 and up will sort you out )
this should ideally be mounted in the back plate, cut a 4" hole a 3rd of the way across one side and about 8/10 inches from the light. depending on your lighting, if your bulb is in a cool tube or built into a shade with a glass cover you may get away with just your airholes.

you will need to drill a row maybe two rows of small 15mm-25mm holes about level with the top of were your pots will sit and two 4" or 2" holes at the top this will create air which you will need for the plants to sirvive.

A small desk fan (4/6" £5/£10 MAX) or ideally a clip on fan should be mounted (usaully you can hang from one srew as there is grove on the back of the clip which is made for this) in the oposite SIDE from which you mounted your extractor.

Hang your light crack some good quailty seeds off and get on it mate

Hope this helps its only a general guide and im far from an growing expert but i know you can achive good results as ive seen similar sets ups and smoked from em

dont hesitate to post mate even if it sounds like the most stuipidist question cos you wont know till you ask.. (and it will save your crop) the boyz on ere are sound and will talk you throuh step by step of this i am sure happy growing dude

Mate, that's fucking awesome! Plus you're recycling so everyone wins I've got some of my best groundscores at the dump. I've got a lightbox that I use for my photography that I grabbed from there, just needed a clean and new bulbs.

I love that your new drobe is compartmentalised already, with venting. Too cool. Steampunk farming anyone?

It seems there is some interest so, I'll update here as things progress.

7rayos-thats not a fan, its either the antenna or speaker grill (not sure what you were looking at. This used to be a radio cabinet.

Tobor the 8th Man, FastForward, jah-hoover, the recycling is one of the best parts, that and the fact I don't have to build, just improve. I'd been thinking about building a mother/veg cab and Budda just provided this.

Swiffy80-you just about covered it.

I'll get this ready to handle drying duties on the Blueberry run that should finish in 2-3 weeks, then the buds move to jars for curing, it'll get the full treatment--light sealing, waterproofing, ventilation, carbon filter, etc. I'm thinking germination and mother areas on the left and the veg area on the right. Wish me luck.

Here's a progress pic after I removed the misc support pieces for the speakers, radio and other equipment this once housed.

Later,
B

Excellent find! If you can restore it and recycle as a grow cab it will also make a nice piece of furniture.

Run the restoration/build thread here..... I'd like to see what you do with it. French polishing would finish it beautifully when its done :-)
