Default First Grow - Aerogarden Pro 100

Yes I bought 2 Aerogardens . LOL
Yes I know there are better and cheaper ways to grow hydroponically

$169 for first, $149 for second and each has an additional $20 rebate

Buying their accessories and seed kits are a total money scam, way overpriced. I submitted my registration and should be getting $50 x 2 in AeroGrow coupons to buy their pricey accessories.

Its seems to be working quite nice for me considering all the negative articles I read online. I bought the tomato seed kit and used the inserts and nutrients for that to get going, I set my AeroGrow to the Tomato/Pepper setting. I had saved seeds from exceptional bags over the years and used those for my first experiment. I put three seeds each in three receptacles and only 2 germinated, one of them got its root pinched because of my own meddling and is barely surviving. I think these seeds were too old and not stored correctly. ( I have since ordered an indoor seed mix and some afghan seeds )

So the good seed germinated in under a week and at three and a half weeks it is now about 5 inches tall and the 7th node is just starting to appear as the 6th unfolds. Other leaves are growing at each node now. Inter node spacing is very short so I think the nutrients and lighting are sufficient.

At week 4 I will switch to the fruiting nutrients that came with the tomato seed kit and start it to flower in my closet using a basic timer for the lights.

I know I am going to hit a height issue eventually. I can either disconnect the lamp and hang it manually or start training the plant to not grow straight up. The lights use a standard radio style 120V AC plug so I can disconnect them from the unit, hang them and plug them into a timer.

Lights are automatic 16 hours on 8 hours off but can be manually turned back on for continual light if wanted. It uses two florescent bulbs at 26 watts, each produces 1450 lumens

I put in some pics of my new baby which also shows the Aerogarden. There is a pic showing the empty slot where the receptacle goes and you can barely see where the water pours from the side of it where the receptacles sponge soaks it up and then drips down to the basin

All in all I am happy with my purchase but I just wish that they had the Pro 200's in stock when I ordered because they have the taller bracket for the light. Even that may have been too short to use for anything other than the shortest strains without training.

I've never recommended aerogardens to novice growers, but hey, it seems like its working for you. good luck.

hey hey! Nice! i got one of these fuckers.i just bought the seedling tray, just pop that bad boy on there and bam 70 rooted clones.... nothing wrong with the aerogarden. theyre actually really simple to use. i used one all the way from start to finish, just let a couple clones go all the way in there. the only problem i forsee with that is the roots at the finish. not that it matters at that point but i had to cut the roots off inside the res to get the plant off. not a biggy though. had pictures, cant seem to find em. been waitin to see somebody else try this out. are you gonna use just the lights that are on it? i cut the lights on mine off and used a couple 125w cfls. those fixtures arent the greatest. reflectors pretty shat-tastic as well.... definitely works as a strart to finish hydro system. id recommend you get em done asap or they can be a bitch to get outta there......

roots can block up that system I'd use nets like you use for hanging baskets..holds to roots back a bit..when they get big

Good tip, I was wondering if the roots might eventually clog the pump. It has a filter but I see how the roots could easily penetrate it.

I did buy a much bigger hydroponic pot with bubble drip system but I found it to be 10 times louder than the AeroGardens which are practically silent. Anyway that system went back into the box for later use.

I am only growing 1 plant ATM and I am assuming the 1.3 gallon resovior is sufficient providing it is a small to medium size plant.

Original plant from photo met with a mishap and a broken stem so she went into cloning last month and I recovered 1 clone so I am about back to where I started. If I had had cloning gel on hand I could have all seven slots with saved cuttings but I was lucky the gel got shiped when it did because I had only 1 inch of live plant left at the time which ended up being the only survivor after some quick underwater surgery.

Strange that the inter-node spacing on the clone is much greater than the original. Not sure if this is common for cuttings or if it was just deficient in nutes or light in my environment.

Default Aerogarden Guide

I have done many, many experiments using the AeroGarden. And, have now perfected it. I have been doing this for over a year. I have excellent results. I have a thread that has had so many replies and questions, so to make things easier, I wrote a “How To” guide. It details everything. It lists all extra materials needed, tips and more tips! I promise, it will cut out all of the problems you might encounter. I know I did and it took several tries to perfect it. This manual is great and I have had excellent responses. If you are interested, click on the link below. Good luck!
