Portable AC Units
Well, summer is around the corner and I've already noticed the temperature rising some. I'm looking at buying one of these units, "Alen C535 Portable Air Conditioner". It looks to be the best one for it's price range, plus free shipping. I'm trying to keep a 14x14x8 room in check through the summer months.
I'd like to hear from anyone running a "Portable Unit". I will not even consider using a widow mounted unit. Any one using a portable unit. I'd love to hear what brand and unit. Also, I'd like to hear of any problems with any units.
Thanks and I look forward to hearing any info. Oh, I will be tapping into my vent in the attic. So, I will not be using the window mount. It will vent straight into the attic space.
Thanks,
BG

Yep BG I also run a portable ac. Last year I got A Heirer(sp?) it was $550 free shippin also. Im not sure what the output is but ill check and get back to ya. It has the dual intake and exhaust ports. Gotta be honest though I think this thing is P.O.S.!!!!!!!!!! It puts off a TON of heat, it cuts out, its stops cooling for hours at a time sometimes. it's drain setup is a joke, it leaks! these do more harm than good, so imho Dont get one of these. Even though I just bought it for $550 not even a year ago, Im done with it...................So Im also lookin at buyin a different and better one for this year.......

I have been using toyotomi portable ac's for over 5 years and highly recommend them.
Here is a link:

Keep in mind portable ac's can only cool so much. I can confirm that this model can keep temp's down in the very low 80's during summer in so-cal with a greenair cd12 propane generator also in the room. Total watts in room 4 x 600.
All temperatures were taken with a laser thermometer at the leaf.
Cheers!

This is what i was hoping for. First, I'd like to thank everyone for all their info. This thread should help others. Those that are thinking about buying one of these units for the summer heat.
I'm glad to get so many different post. The good, the bad, and other options. Here's where I stand for the summer heat.
I'm running 2x600HPS now. Will be firing up another 3x600HPS and "Maybe" another 3x600HPS after that, but for now. Let's say for sure. I will be cooling 5x600HPS lights for sure. I'm using all Yield Master™ II 6" Supreme Reflector. They are totally sealed and vented into the attic. My room is 14x14x8. I'm guessing one of these units should work fine. Since I'm venting all the lights hot air into the attic. Oh, my fesh air is being pulled into the room from the rest of the house.
I'm thinking about adding a 2-3 ton unit later on. Just so, it's easier to sell the house. Any thoughts on my setup are more then welcome. Keep, the post coming. This is only going to help others. Those that are looking to buy one of these units. Thanks for the posts everyone.
Take care,
BG

I run a fedders A6P09S2B, I wish I never wasted my 400$ on it. The remote control quit working after 2 weeks. Puts off way to much heat imo.

OsWizZle what is a spot cooler? Is similar to a multi-split?
Thanks for the info.
Cheers!

My portable ac sucks also, I tried venting the single hose into the atic and it will not drop the temps much because of all the heat it puts off, You could try using insulated hose. But they are not designed to vent up, they are suppose to vent straight out a window and only a few feet of hose. Then they also suck up your cooled air unless u get a dual hose unit.
My plan is get a 4x8 tent and put the a/c inside and vent the hose straight out a window. Are maybe a big 10x10 and try and get the heat under control this year. Last year i hit 100 all the time, and probally knocks yeild %25
