This is my first post, been lurking over here for quite a while, tons of great info. Having a bit of an issue with my ez cloner & I'm not really sure why. To start off it's a DNA lemon walker strand I've been running for a few years clones off clones off clones & never had this issue. Moms were flushed before Cuttings were taken. Cuttings have been in the ez clone for 21 days now & I'm finally getting some roots. Cloner runs 24/7, 18/6 light schedule, 2 bulb 2 ft cfl about 3 feet above, Air temps range from 68-74 avg 72, rh about 40%. I've changed the water three times & added a shot of 30% h202 every 3-5 days as a preventive measure (saved a slimy batch with it before a while back). I just ran out so now I'm using the "clear rez" again that comes with the cloner. I run tap water & do not ph adjust (I never have for anything) & added a minute amount of "great white" this last h20 change since I saw some root development & have no h202 in the system now. I scraped the stems & cut a 45 like I always have, dipped in "root tech" gel, & placed in brand new pre cleaned cloner. Cuttings look healthy above collars, no wilt, little yellowing on older leaves. Below collars stem is same green color, white & callused where I scraped. Weird part is the new root growths arent growing off the exposed part of the stem down below the collar, but from inside the collar itself... any ideas why? I moved a row lower into the collars to see how the roots react to being exposed to the sprayers, waiting to see what they do.

Did u check and make sure ur sprayers r working? U can do so by removing the portion of the lid that holds the clones and replacing it w the clear dome and turning it back on.

Also u shud definitely ph adjust it to 5.7 imo. Also its important to make sure water temp is at 68.

The larger cutting has already been moved down in the collar. The smaller cutting is an example of the roots only exposing themselves inside the collar.

Sprayers are good, I run manifold & pump in a bucket of hot water & h202 to clean it while I rinse out bottom of cloner

I recommend dbl checking. Only takes a tiny bit of crud to block em up

When I changed the water Friday I angled them a little differently. When I checked to make sure they were all spraying @ 100% in the shower I noticed they were kind of spraying into each others path. Now they look like this

Put your cloner on a timer for 30 minute intervals, you're not making the clones work, they need to reach for the water. Trust me I used to do what you did and it fucked me over big time. Don't scrape stems at bottom whatsoever you don't need to. Just make your angled cut and dip in solution and move on.

I'll give it a try. I understand the idea of on & off to make them reach out. I've always run 24/7 & just within my last two batches have I had this issue. I'm open to new ideas tho, you never know what you could be doing better.

I'm just basing my knowledge off the same system you use than me so figured I'd throw my 2 cents in there. Good thing is your clones still look pretty damn healthy for being in there so long, so I think you'll be alright. I think my two biggest changes was not shaving stems, and adding the timer

Guy @ the store turned me on to the h202, I kinda feel like that's what has kept them happy. Helped me save a really nasty slimy batch before too. I use about an oz per 5 gal.

I' an aero cloner guy

Keep it simple!

Tap water
Ph to 6.0
I run mine 24/
1x small air stone per cloner
Nothing else is needed

Water temps should between 75* lowest to 79* highest.

I also use a 4bulb 4' t8 6500k light.

You have way too much stem below the collar. 2" max imo. You want the roots to stretch to the water. And no dome needed for aero clonerz.

I also use an aero cloner. A turbo kloner in fact. It ses right in the directions to run at 68deg and 5.7 ph. Also ses to add clonex fertilizer. Personally, i like the dome.

Do you guys think age might have anything to do with it? If I remember right she is technically around 5 years old now. On my last ez clone run when this happened I ran three strains including this lemon & the other two were from new mothers that were maybe six months old. The new strains rooted by day seven & the lemons were still bare stems til almost 21 days again. I only ask because it's only been within the last few runs she's been tough like this. All conditions have been almost identical going back to day one.

I've never used a dome. I always figured the humidity & heat created by the pump was sufficient to keep the cuttings from drying out.
I probably should ph tho. Is it weird to hear I've never ph'd any of my ezs? It's just not what I was taught so I never have.

What' your cleaning regimine like for the entire cloner, including neoprene pucks? That could possibly to be the issue.

I run 24 hrs with 1 cap of concentrated bleach
Rinse
Run 24hrs with 1/2 bottle store bought h202 (iirc it's 3%)
Rinse
Run 24 hrs with plain tap
Rinse and let dry

I leave the pucks, collars, and air tu ing thru all cycles.

After that run I bought a new one because I figured my pump had something built up inside I could not get rid of, tried bleach & h202 separately. I haven't touched that entire unit 1 since.
My new 32 got a run with h202 as soon as I took it out of the box rinse with h20 & then filled with h20 & a full batch of lemons to replace the other batch i thought was done for. I really didn't have a problem with unit 2 other than I had to take scrappy cuttings & they had ugly fat roots rather than little beards. They all lived & I didn't know what to do with them all lol. I ran the unit in scalding hot h202 water after transplant broke the pump down & scrubbed it. Rinse & stored it. I normally toss the collars & start fresh, better safe than sorry & saves me the time & hassle. Haven't used that one since but I don't hesitate to with new collars.
The unit im using now is a 64(needed more space). Brand new, same run with h202, rinse & fill with cuts. After a week I change water & run entire manifold in hot h202 water & check sprayers for obstructions for a few minutes while I clean bottom & refill. Week 2 repeat. Week 3 repeat. & so on. I'm a big believer in 30% h202 as preventative & a cleaner. I mean it'll burn your skin lol. I prefer it over the "clear rez" product they provide you with too. I've witnessed it reverse slime & save cuttings. It took a while but they all lived.
The new white units make it really easy to see anything developing inside I like them so far. It'll get a good run & scrub in hot water h202 ran for an hour, rinsed & left to dry. Same process before I do the next run with new collars.

What do you think about transplanting into 1 gals of SS4 with the collars intact? I'm already having a few roots growing into/through the collars & when I tried moving the stem down & roots into the sprayers some of those roots broke. I can move them all down but I need to do it today if that's the case (last time this through the collar non-sense happened I broke a lot off @ transplant & it really slowed them down). Otherwise I'll just let them do their thing through the collars & slice the tops @ transplant so they split up as the main stem grows larger. I go from 1s to 7s within four weeks most of the time.

I ended up moving everything down in the collars. The stem below is a little long now but only a few of them managed to grow into/through the collar.

80% of my cutting end up growing a few rootsninto the neo collar. It' not an issue.
