As the title says - I had a bad box of go nutes. Some are chunky some are smooth. Hardly seeing any good signs from my plant when I used them. Finally emailed the manufacturer and they said that’s not normal. Had black mold (I think mold) on the tamper proof seal on all 8 bottles. Stay away from Amazon is what they told me.

With that said, I need help with fixing this plant. She hasn’t really grown in about 4 weeks. I want quality, not quantity so I removed a lot of branches and taped off the stalk with painters tape. Some small leaves are growing on the branches close to the stalk but they wither pretty quickly. The remainder of the plant has seen minimal growth. She’s been in the soil from seed since dec 22. Some burning here and there but only when I’ve overdone fish fertilizer (5-1-1) and foliage pro (9-3-6). Forgot water water feed. I was feeding back to back then watering. Bad idea it seems.

Temps have been 68-78 ... can’t get any higher than that. Need a CO2 bottle so I can lower or eliminate my air intake.
Humidity is always in the 40-60% range. New in/out fans so it’s a work in progress to dial in. Think I need another humie to simplify my life as far as humidity goes.

Pics are attached.

(1) 300 watt LED full spectrum.

I have a stand alone bottle of calimagic that I’ve used once but I’d like confirmation that I need to use more...I have some rust spots here and there not caused by poor ventilation. Iirc combined with the leaves that have missing material that’s a calcium deficiency? Just going off others posts and tips received.

Soil slurry 4 days ago was 6.2 after soaking for 20 minutes.

My water/feed schedule is up in the air until I get some quality organic nutes. Water is always ph’d to 6.8-6.2 when I do water/feed.

Medium is reds bio char

I’m ok with spending money on nutes so long as you experienced growers know it’s a top notch product. That said, I don’t want to pay $100 for a quart though.

2 weeks ago I did flush with 4 gallons per day, 3 days in a row. I never let the soil dry though so maybe I also have root rot? In a 7-gal smart pot. I’m not against re-potting it. I have new soil unopened. I want quality so I don’t care if I need to stay in veg for another 3 months. Quality first.

This bio char supposedly has everything the plant needs as they feed each other. But my bad box of nutes I think dismantled the ecosystem in the soil.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks y’all.

If you wouldn’t mind, go ahead and step back and take a pic of the plant. Easier to get a handle on what’s going on there.
Sounds like you got some garb nutes. Hmm
Check for bugs? Let it dry out

Lol as soon as I hit post reply with the pics I realized a zoomed out pic wasn’t taken...figured that was gonna be needed. Here they are.

I investigate for bugs daily. Flipping over the leaves. No trails anywhere, no moving dots so I think it’s pest free. There’s a few fan blades that look perfect. I only open my tent after a shower and clean clothes. I have 2 cats so I need to be extra extra cautious. I even use lice shampoo to be safe lmao.

Thanks

I did bend the stalk down to pull the top cola down. Super cropped I think(?) snapped the top (half still attached) taped it and it seems it didn’t mind. I bent it 2 weeks ago and 2-3 days ago I accidentally snapped the top cola/super cropped

And to prevent contamination/bugs I leave my shirt in my tent and after 2 days it’s washed / replaced with a different shirt. Beanie the same thing. Resist picking up my cats until I know tent work is done for the time being

Looks pretty good man. What strain?
She says thanks. Strawberry fields.

Considering the nature of the medium should I disregard nutes for a week or so and see? A wise man told me don’t buy expensive soil for your first grow because you’ll f it up. So naturally I bought expensive soil for my first grow and had a 7.4 soil slurry for a while before I checked it.

But the branches I removed had a lot of the same type of missing leaf material and withered baby leaves. I assumed any mobile nutrients were being pulled from there to supply the more important higher ups in the plant. But calcium is immobile, and I have spots (small spots) so should I only use cal mag? Has some iron in it too.

And yeah right now she’s light but I’m gonna hold off on water for another 48 hours

Your rust spot issue is most likely ph related so you might not need to add. But who knows.

Couple things..
1, let it dry out. Dont drench it like you were anymore, just give plain water only when its dry and stop giving it extra nutes. It shouldn't need it in veg, like you said you've probably over concentrated the nutrients in the soil. Have you done a slurry test for Ec?

2, the small spots COULD be Ca-, but if it is I'd guess it's more likely from overfeeding with unbalanced nutes. Not that there isnt enough calcium in the media.

3, the ripped leaves were likely just damaged when they were small. Ca- doesnt do that.

4, If your source water isnt very hard with regard to alkalinity (<150ppm), you shouldn't need to ph it. The soil buffer will do that for you. If it is hard/high in carbonates, cut it with RO until it's at or under 150ppm.

5, you could start to feed with nutes once they are in flower, but very small inputs and infrequently.

6, mobile nutrients wont be taken from young newer growth, only older larger leaves. Sick younger growth is more of a sign of a mobile nutrient deficiency. But again thats likely from poor fertilizer and unnecessary application of such.

ok, will do. at least 48 hours i'll let it dry. and i'll do another slurry test tomorrow and check the EC.

had a feeling that was the cause for the spots -- unbalanced, but not lacking in the medium.

the ripped leaves i imagine are from my fan wires(cords) then. some fan wires were close to the leaves and with the oscillating fan on there was constant rubbing on wires. ive since fixed all that nonsense. ventilation was overhauled.

tap water is 7.8 ph and at 150 ppm.... based on stoned research i understood to ph my water down, add nutes, then ph it up. made no sense to me but thats what ive been doing. if i just nute my tap water it drops it down to the sweet spot. and is it true that i should keep my feed at a certain ph or should i range it? i know 6.2 - 6.8 but should i strictly use a final ph of 6.5 or go from 6.8 to 6.3 to 6.5 to 6.2?

in regards to flipping, how long would you suggest i keep her in veg if i want her to produce the best quality buds she can make?

righty-o. thanks man.

With that soil, you should be fine to just use your water with no ph adjustments at all. But when you do add nutrients in flower, adjust it if necessary to 6-6.5. I like to slowly increase the ph as flower progresses. I'll start around 6.0 in week 1, week 3 - 6.2ph, week 6 -6.3ph, week 7 - 6.5ph etc. Its just how I do it, There are a few halfbaked reasons why but I wont get Into that. Anywhere in that range is fine. You might not need to adjust it at all.

And dont go by a number of hours or days to judge when to water. Get to know the weight of the pot by feel. Lift it up every day. You'll notice when its lighter and needs water. Honestly at this stage your probably better off watering once every 4-5 days. The roots need air just as much as they need water.

When to flip, that has more to do with the size of your space than quality of the buds. I like to flip when my plants have filled the available canopy area by about 80-85% give or take.

i'm at 6.7 ph and a 338 EC ; havent watered since 8 days ago (very middle is still damp)

she still hasnt grown much, if at all in the last week+

would i benefit from transplanting into a same size container with fresh soil? or could my lack of growth be more related to temperature fluctuations all over the place? low of 65 high of 104. huge swings. getting co2 setup going soon so that should help me balance the temps.

i havent watered in a week and she definitely needs it soon but if 338 e/c is high, i'll look around for distilled or an r/o water kit or just transplant and try to get as much dirt off as i can and hope she recovers the way i re-plant her. i'll keep her in veg as long as she needs me to.

and my question about when to flip had more to do with the current health of her. should i want until shes very healthy for a month before i flip? i imagine flipping a healthy plant would yield more than flipping a plant thats having trouble

First, you need to get those temp swings under control. 65 is fine for the dark cycle, lights on shouldn't swing more than 10-15F difference. 70-82 is the sweet spot. That is critical.

Transplanting will just stress them out further, especially if you try and remove soil from the roots. When its dry I would water it with compost tea. If you have the ability to brew it's best to make yourself fresh but you can sometimes buy AACT at hydro stores. You want to feed it nothing but microbes and bennies for a week or two to try and unlock the organic nutrient potential in the soil.

Yeah temps closer to 80 would be better. And that tea looks like good stuff, but it's not providing any beneficial microorganisms. It's more than likely a fermented compost tea which has a nearly Indefinate shelf life when sealed up. It's the end product of composting, so really just a nutrient solution produced by composting. Not really the same as what I'm suggesting.
What I'm suggesting is finding a source of fresh living compost to make tea out of to inoculate your soil with beneficial microorganisms. Fresh AACT is a different animal compared to bottled, fermented compost tea.

I dont like to admit this to many people, but my local elementary school has a teaching garden with 3 rotated compost bins and one is always good to go. I usually roll in there under the cover of darkness and steal a couple cups worth for making my compost teas.

this is what i'd have to select from. i emailed them asking if they have aact and then found this thing called a search bar. https://hydropros.com/search?type=article,page,product&q=compost*+tea*

i imagine none of them are aact and i dont really have the desire to make my own unless its the only thing that will bring my plant back to healthy status. i was thinking of filling a pasta strainer with soil (fresh) and soaking it in a pasta pan with distilled water for 8 hours (as many gallons as i can get in there) then use that to water my plant and pull anything it can from that soil. is that too hopeful?
