You could relocate that filter to the outside of the box, and move your light up higher. Just have a piece of flex duct mount flush to inside of box and connect filter to other end on outside of box.

Yep, that design has several trouble area's. Roots would entangle from plant to plant, flooding also comes to mind if there is a blockage from roots.....and there would be. Would cost a fortune in nutrients..... The amount of water you have doesn't help with PH stability.....what's IN the water...

Doesn't matter....you should have seen a drop in tds. With proper installation your whole house filter system should be adequate for what your trying to do. Do yourself a favor and take a pressure reading. As I stated, these filters need pressure to work properly.

You need to check your water pressure if this is true.....no RO filter will work properly with too little pressure. You would need to add a pump to increase pressure.
