DIY LED with COBs - small medium and large grows

If your string is 144 volts, then you really don't want to push a 143 volt supply. Rule of thumb for both safety and life of electrical products.. don't go over 80% of it's maximum load. Give yourself 20% headroom.. you'll have less problems overall. And less chance of a driver failing on you a...

    Magnum Plus

A 3w single chip diode has a further throw/beam distance than a 1w diode.. adding 2 more to make it 3x1w diode doesn't make the beam go further "vertically".. wider/horizontally yes.. but not downwards/vertically. A single chip diode is also more efficient at thermal management.. only 1 chip...

Reusing / Refilling Can Carbon Filters?

I just uploaded this for ya.. shows a quick bit of the procedure in the Can-Filter factory. They vibrate the carbon to settle it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVHSLDegQWw Enjoy.........

    7w Diodes

depends on which brand.. that was just a quick google http://www.lightbulbsdirect.com/page/001/CTGY/HPS By the way.. I never said you couldn't grow from seed using hps, I just said you (normally) don't. Same as growing from seed to harvest using halide.. it can be done, but you don't. And...

    7w Diodes

Perhaps it was the grower that was "crappy".. everyone with success says way more crystal than with hid...... By the way.. I've had meds from hps.. that was pretty crappy as well. Just 'cause buddy plants some seeds, puts a light over it, and gives it some water.. doesn't mean he knows what...

    7w Diodes

If that's the case, then you'd grow the entire cycle with hps.. from seed. But you don't. Sure, more lumens.. but wrong spectrum for vegging. If it was just intensity, then using 1w Cree whites are the same, if not more lumens per watt as a 250w hps, 400w hps, 600w hps, and even the 1000w...

    7w Diodes

But... if you want to grow commercially, then led's can still do the job.. as long as it's SoG. If you can grow trees.. great. But can you adapt that knowledge into growing in a way that maximizes the yield in a smaller area.. that's the question ;). You get more per square foot doing SoG than...

    7w Diodes

You want intensity? Look at what the coral reef community's doing.. replacing 400w metal halides with 3w Cree whites and blues. No, not the same as weed.. but growing coral, in 18" of water.. salt water at that.. and they all say their coral's take off like crazy...

    7w Diodes

if spectrum didn't matter, then you'd use halides the whole way.. but hps gives better results, right? and if it was "just" intensity, well a friggin' halogen's even stronger than an hps.. but wrong spectrum for proper growth. get over your self bud.. the data's from peeps like Ed Rosenthal...

    7w Diodes

You have to take into account that a plant only uses about 1/2 the wavelengths that an hps puts out, so at least 1/2 that hps is "wasted". And contrary to what Lost is saying about "intensity"... Dunge was right... you're not using every friggin' colour of the sun to grow your plants, only some...

    7w Diodes

See, that's the issue to begin with.. led's should be at least 75% of what you were using with hid's. 50% is bs. As for "penetration".. depends on the led's lumen output.. not the wattage. A 1w Cree XP-E Red 630nm has 45.7 - 62 Lumens @ 350mA.. bin depending. "Dorado 1w 624nm" has 32 Lumens @...

    What LED Light for $300.00?

If ya make it yerself, a 200 Cree/LedEngin led panel would be less than $1000. That's using 3w and 5w led's.. minimum 400w output, depending what you set the led's current at. Even cheaper if using Chinese crap.......

    Choosing the righd LED

My bad.. redid the math with a calculator... it's actually a 500w panel.. drawing 580w to run. And for $3500!! :confused0054: GLH would've been a better choice.. and for $2000 less... lol!

    Choosing the righd LED

Cheers....... :) But do you know your panel's actual output? I mean.. what do they actually call the panel.. a 580w? It's kinda important to know what you're buying, no? When you buy a 250hps, you know it's a 250w light.. that uses 300w. When you buy a panel from a "competitor", they...

    Choosing the righd LED

Exactly :passingjoint: I'm completely aware of the math CereaLED, and the fact about temperatures and fluctuating wavelengths.. that's what happens when a light is increased or lowered.. just like the chandelier in mom's dining room on a dimmer switch. I'm building my own panel, and have been...

    7w Diodes

In the videos, he specifically says they use Crees. In fact, he bragged about it. Cree doesn't make 660nm to begin with, nor do they make 380nm or 730nm. They do make 425nm, 630nm and White 12K though. And they don't make 2w led's.. either 1.75w (xr-c), 1.5w (xp-e) and 3w (xr-e). So the...

    7w Diodes

Actually.. Bridgelux only makes whites.. Cree makes whites AND colours. And best place to get 'em.. Cutter Electronics in Australia. If you get the "regular mail" shipment, it'll take 14 days.. but at 1/2 the price of anywhere else. 20 Red 630nm XP-E's and 20 RedOrange 620nm XP-E's came to $145...
