    Butane extraction and recycle system

The "Turpenator"! I love to see the evolution of your device. What are the new upgrades and how can I make my machine similar? Like, what is that silver thermal sleeve looking thing on the column? What is the collection pot inside of? Please fill me in.

DIY Fully Enclosed Butane Extraction Sysytem W/ Hard Vac! (Inspired by Graywolf)

By flange, are you referring to the collection pot? If so, the base is a blind flange welded the the 6"(dia) cylinder/pot. The upper portion of the pot has a raised face flange (with machined groove for o-ring) welded to it. Then, the raised face lid (with all the connectors) seals to it.

I want to thank all readers for the outpouring of appreciation and support! I said it before, and I'll say it again...all praise goes to Graywolf! Please see pic for detail. Everything is the same, minus the rupture port. Thanks for your approval! It means a lot! I'm using an Appion G5...

DIY Fully Enclosed Butane Extraction Sysytem W/ Hard Vac! (Inspired by Graywolf)

Currently, there's two interchangeable columns. A 12" and a 48". The 12" should fit between 75-100 grams of material, and the 48" should fit between 300-335g. As far as yield goes, it all depends on what you throw at it. You can't expect to throw shit at it and get gold; Maybe silver into gold...

DIY Fully Enclosed Butane Extraction Sysytem w/Hard Vac! (Inspired by Graywolf) First and foremost, the idea for this mastertype protopiece...I mean, prototype masterpiece comes from the chosen one....Graywolf! Without him, this wouldn't have happened! I'm just gonna post pics. When I have...

    Butane extraction and recycle system

Here's a preview of my new "dream"... Will be doing some pressure/vac testing tomorrow, then, some "real world" testing... Then, I'm gonna start my own thread, and give all praise and glory to GRAYWOLF!

I get to (finally) pick up the rest of my "dream" from the machinist today, and then straight to the welder's. :party0044:

Everything made sense until you mentioned "Schrader valves". Where do you use them, and why? Also, how do you purge off non-compressible gasses using the in-line valve on the vapor return line (going to refrigerant cylinder)? Do you disconnect it from the recovery machine first? Sorry if this...

I was also reading about heat and viton o-rings. It appears that they 're temp range is -15ºF to 400ºF. I know you're heating it up a bit, but 400ºF seems a little much. What would the temperature of the bottom plate be, at it's warmest? Jeez, I wish I hadn't bought that extra flange set now...

I'll keep that in mind if ever there comes a time/need for one. Impressive. But, I'm not surprised. I totally understand, and I actually am happy to be building it myself. I like the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. Makes sense to me. Can you please shed some light...

I'll take your word for it. I'm going o-ring downstairs too. But how much would it cost (including valves and controller)? What folks? Are you building these to sell now? If so, I wish I would've known before I started my project! What's your take on adding a sight glass?

Why not just weld the lower plate to the bottom, instead of paying for a groove to be machined? I love this idea! :pimp: I'm failing to see the need for six ports on the lid. This sounds really techy and really expensive! I like it! It just seems way too expensive.

Doing a last minute change up from the paint pot... ...to a 6" x 7" (diameter x height) Stainless 304 Schedule 10 pipe, welded to a 6" 304 blind flange or plate on the bottom, and a 6" 304 slip-on, raised-face flange on the top (with a machined groove for an o-ring), which seals up to a 304...

    Butane extraction and recycle system

No. It's makes it a far less attractive option than obtaining N-Butane, but not unusable. Just make sure to get a quality disposable that has a good reputation. Then, make sure you purge all the Mercaptan (odorant) enriched butane.

NVM the flange questions. I bit the bullet and went with o-ring unions from Hart. I'm going to start out with 2 columns (48" & 12"). After that, it's roughly $150 to add another set to each addition column, in the future. Also, just ordered a 5' x 1-1/2" SCH 05 304 SS for $50, since you...

How are you connecting the SAE refrigerant hoses to the fittings/tree on the pot? Aren't they NPT fittings? Also, which of the following blind flanges (1 or 2) is best for use with thisthis slip on flange? Forgive me for being completely ignorant regarding some of this stuff. A lot of it...
