Thats pretty much exactly how I trim mine. Its more a matter of personal preference and what your ambient humidity is. I'm growing in a damp root cellar so I wet trim everything off.

I didn't notice any white flies. I think I had a calcium deficiency at one point but I could be wrong. It could also have been rust fungus. Does rust fungus impart any strange odours?

If anything they dried too fast. They don't break apart, they are very sticky. You could also describe it as a grapefruit smell. Maybe this is normal, not sure. I have put the affected buds in a different room for now in case it is mold.

Initially I suspect too much Phosphorus. What are you feeding them? Have you been flushing your coco until the TDS has been reduced to minimal levels?

I think he said he's using 6" net pots. My current system uses 10" net pots designed to fit on 5 gallon pails but the useable resevoir capacity is only 3 gallons. If I switched to the square 4 gallon buckets and 6" net pots would I have more or less resevoir capacity than I do now?

I was looking at the four gallon square pails from uline.ca that I think are the same as the ones you are using. Would you happen to know how many gallons they hold to the bottom of a net pot?

I presume you meant PH issues. The plant used to be right next to my resevoir and sometimes I would add PH down directly to the resevoir and turn on the circulation pump. That could have resulted in PH in that first bucket dropping quite a bit before things got mixed up and maybe that caused...
