Butter Substitute

I'd like to make some cookies with some canna coconut oil. The recipe calls for softened butter and I would like to use half butter and half canna coconut oil. Do I need to use softened coconut oil or melted coconut oil? I'm not sure if it even matters. Seems like if I melted the coconut oil it would be distributed more evenly throughout the dough.

Just add it with the butter and beat it into the sugar will be fine.
