Hey I was wondering about coco coir and have been reading around such mixed experiences. It must be kept moist constantly like hydro? Also how to keep gnats out if the coir is constantly moist..always been interested in growing coco..thanks

Yes it stays moist like hydro. Multiple daily feedings is preferable.

To keep the gnats out you can put a top layer of something. I use hydroton. But anything. Then try I'd rid you're Grow area of them completely. Lol.

Read justicemans root tutorial on the stickies of this sub forum. Great info on coco. Also the "beds are for f***ing" sticky thread. Great coco info.

Or you could use washed sand. They aren’t really that big of an issue in coco anyways. Not the best place to hatch eggs and raise larva. Need soil for that. But on the off chance that you do get them, a drench of Azamax should clear it right up. I did my last grow in soil, and I’m already so much happier with the coco.

Only precaution I've taken is a good yellow sticky trap. Haven't had any issues
