Decarboxing Question

Discussion in 'Concentrates & Processing' started by dorjewright, Aug 23, 2018.

  1. If I do a quick wash extraction with 190 proof everclear then remove the everclear with a distiller at 170 degrees (which takes a good hour or more) Why decarb in the oven before hand? Seems to me doing both is over doing it.

  2. There's a chart, if you can trust a chart. I've never been able to and always over did it. Seems like at 170 you'd need at least 3 hours though

  3. 1 hr in alcohol/water at 170 F won't decarb noticeably. Air decarb at that temp is about 16 hrs, and dissolved thc might take much longer.
Decarb first or your medicine will be very weak. 240 F for 40 min is optimal. Ardent Lift/Nova is even better.

  4. I know that chart.
    But what is ardent/nova?

The nova is basically a fantastic, automatic, idiot proof decarber. I'm the proof. You can decarb bud, kief hash and rosin etc. They e-mailed me today about a soon to be released guide to infusing with the Nova. I've been interested in doing that. Good luck

  8. If you are decarbing extract it's simple.... I put my rosin in a beaker and heat it on the hot plate to about 250F or so. When the large bubbles stop, the carbon has been dropped and the acid has been converted.

Don't go past the little bubbles too far or you'll start to convert the THC.

I never had much luck decarbing rosin or extracts in my oven. I always got inconsistent results. Plus, it only takes a few minutes on the hot plate and beaker.

For decarbing dry herb, I'll never do it other than Sous Vide again. Wow, what a difference. It maintains the terpene profile so I get the real effect even in my edibles without having to add back the terps that were lost in the oven. Plus, it is totally odor free. Not a big deal but another plus.

I have only done it Sous Vide a few times and there's no looking back for me.

She should be able to do it. That is Shanel Lindsay the CEO of Ardent and one heck of a cannabis legalization advocate. She is the best!

@Hackerman- Before I got a Source Extractor, I used my Sous Vide as a hot bath to reduce my tincture. Now just use for legit cooking, never tried to decarb. I use the Nova for Rosin and bud because I'm old, it's bulletproof and I'd forget about watching the bubbles! My some-heimer's ain't getting any better.

  12. Sounds pretty neat. I like how it will do small batches. I checked them out on eBay and there must be 2 models or something. Some auctions were around $275 and others were about $450. I'll look into it. Always open minded to something that I have not tried yet.

    Thanks
