DIY- double bulb Halide / HPS air-cooled hood for around $60

    I love the cool-tube / air cooled hood systems but I wanted a custom DUAL bulb fixture that a bulb or bulbs could be quickly changed out from a HPS to a MH or 400watt to a 600 or 1000 watt. Kinda like a plug n play grow light hood.

    The only difference from the one shown and my new design is that the bulbs are mounted socket to socket instead of bulb to bulb. I like this configuration for better overall light distribution and easy bulb replacement.

    Materials list.

    • 1) 10"x36" galvinized ducting w/hook-seam connector.
    • 1) 36"x16" glass sheet 3/16" thick.
    • 2) 4" to 8" galv duct sleaves with workable tabs.
    • 1) roll of heavy duty (metal) ducting sealant tape
    • 1) roll of 1/8" adhesive backed neoprene weather stripping.
    • 1) can of high temp (flat) white BBQ paint.
    • 1) tube of white silicone sealant (fast dry).
    • 4) 3"- 4" L-brackets w-mounting holes.
    • 1) 4' section of 12/3 SO cable.
    • 2) male 115 vac 15amp recepticles.
    • 2) 1/2" threaded strain relief fittings.
    • 1) J-box w-1/2" ports,
    • # 12 machine thread bolts-nuts-nylocks & fender washers.
    • #10 x 1" coarse sheet metal screws.
    • 1) 4'x4'x .75" plywood (good kind).
    • 2) 1/4"x20 x 2" eye bolts w-hardware.
