Hi all, I'm new to growing and was looking for a good light to buy, but looking in the forums has inspired me to build my own led light. I'm not sure if I'm going to go with cobs or some sort of led panel yet but I think the first step would be to finding a capable heat sink. The area I'm looking to cover is 2ftx4ft. From what I have found I would need about 210w at a minimum. so I need to find a heat sink that can handle 52.5w per foot or two heat sinks that can handle 26.25w per foot at a minimum without getting too hot and raising my grow area temps too much. I live in a pretty hot area and I plan on growing in my shed. So the cooler the fixture runs the better for me.

All I have found is some really expensive heatsinks anywhere from 15-26$ per foot, does anyone have any links to some cheaper heatsink options? Thanks!

With a 2 x4 foot area you can do it with QB120's and they don't require a heatsinks at all. You could use 4 - 6 panels and a 240 watt or 320 watt mean well supply.

Thanks for the reply's! that's a nice set up you posted DPG. that arrangement with the panels isn't something I've thought of. i was thinking just hanging one over each plant. which would be a pain to hang each individual panel. but that makes it much easier.

Thank's for the links homesteader! some how I didn't come across HS usa in my searches. Those prices look reasonable!

This is what I was thinking. I have a 6ftLx4ftWx7ftT area to cover. so I was thinking of building two linear 4ft heatsinks mounted on an angle spaced 2ft apart. like in the photo. I think for one I'll get really good side penetration and over all better light spread. I just need to find some good liner led panels.

Just found theses heatsinks when I was looking for a converter I remember from my aquarium to control the meanwell drivers I plan on ordering. I think I might give these a try. They are relatively inexpensive.
