I use to be the commercial artist at Tower Records in the old days of being 17 years old, almost 30 years ago, whaa! Anyways, we used to use this thick Styrofoam board to do the art boards. This thigh Styrofoam would be PERFECT for insulation, perfect.

Obviously this would need to be done during the building of your system or during the cleaning of it.

All you would need to do is cut a hole in the middle in smaller increments as you put them lower on the buckets. You could either glue them together or have them just be pressed together by the top of the bucket and the floor. You could just cut a slit for any holes needed for plumbing.

Am I wrong or does this not only sound like a GREAT idea but a pretty CHEAP one as well?
