Setting up a closet drying room, my dilemma is the humidity can go from 40 one day to 70 the next. I am thinking of getting both a humidifier and dehumidifier and running them on a controller, turning on which ever one needs to run to maintain a set value. Has anyone else here done this with success?

Get a fan. Rh is secondary to heat and a dehum will heat up the closet. Maybe a sock of rice is all you need.

Airflow, temps and rh is the order of worry in,as long as you have enough airflow and your temps aren't in the extremes rh between 40 and 70 is certainly manageable, try the dehumidifier or place sum rice or whatever in there when the rh is higher.
