Drying Log 10/31/18

Went to collect Banana Ice Cream #2 from the drying room to start trimming today and was shocked to find it infested with spider mites. They were so bad I had to sacrifice a couple of colas they had saturated. The BIC#2 didn't have a mite of problem so I quickly deduced they must have migrated. I harvested the plants that were in there over several days so as one plant dried there was always a fresher plant to move to until there was only the BIC#2, and there they amassed. I am never skipping the H2O2 bath again.

It's hard to see but they're all the way through this whole cola. Normally they'll make a little tent at the top of the drying branch/stalk (bottom of the plant hanging upside down) but there there were so many that they reached a critical mass an spread lower. It killed me to give up these frosty colas but !@#$ing yuck!!!

All of them are 87 days old. The Creamsicle are 22 days into bloom, the Kush are 11 days. These pics are 3 days old, I'll get some fresh ones today.
Quick question...what is that green material that you're using to cover the plants? Are you able to see out of it and is it hard to see in it? The reason I'm asking is because I want to grow on my balcony but I'd like to be able to put something up that will not block the sun, but will not allow people to see what I'm growing. Any suggestions or links to something I can buy on Amazon?

It's 20% shade cloth and it's basically a cloth greenhouse. Most people dont know this but cannabis is a semi-shade plant. That's why it grows so well inside under LEDs.

You can only see through it straight on, or with a light source behind it. So if your balcony is at ground level, then no, it will not hide your plants well. But if you're up one story or more it will provide you a lot of privacy. Yes, you can see out of it during the day but people can see in at night with light from your window and you will not be able to see out. The only way I can think of to completely block the view of your plants is by using the translucent plastic used on greenhouses, but you will not be able to see out. You can hang a dark material inside the shadecloth that you roll up during the day and roll down at night to block, or at least muffle the light from your window. If you do that you will need to make sure you stay on top of opening it before dawn or you could send them into early flower and then your looking at reveg problems. The shade cloth will also likely give you an earlier flower by a week or two.

I bought my 20% cloth from a local hardware store/nursery at about $100 for 5'x30' but I see 30%(which should be fine) all over Amazon for much lower prices and larger sises. I'd give you a link but I'm not sure what sise you need. If you have any problems finding the right sise or % just give me the measurements and I'll help you source it. I'm an excellent bargain hunter, hehe.

You will find that shade cloth is also very attractive to mantids. They were everywhere on my plants before I had to pull it down because my girls got too big this year. Also, you'll lose them if you need to use pesticides, and don't be surprised if you do need them. Outdoor cannabis attracts a lot of pests, especially if you live in a dry location with few tender green plants around you. I can help you there too if it becomes a problem.

...one more thing. If you're balcony faces East it is very possible that your girls will grow quite large. You need to be prepared to train them, or even better, train them from the start using LST or super-cropping. Again, if you are a new grower, I can help you with that or direct you to more information on it.

If you are new to growing I recommend buying one of the guides by Jorge Cervantes or Ed Rosenthal.

Welcome to the forum and happy growing.

Awesome, yeah, I've looked into that also. I actually have an indoor tent going on for the first time as well, but thought I'd take advantage of my balcony and use the free sunlight and air. Last January I planted some seeds out there just to see what would happen, and besides me messing up the drying and curing process and some PM I had to deal with, it turned out ok. So now I'm taking it more serious because I see so much potential....plus I'm just a pothead who loves to blaze.

Right on man. So we're at about the same experience level. That makes things a lot easier.

I still personally recommend the Cannabis Encyclopedia by Cervantes if you don't already have it. It's been an invaluable resource to me.

Dropped off a few samples for a potential client yesterday. If this goes well I might have a fully solar system, deck room, one or two larger tents, more lights, and a complete ventilation system by Christmas. I'll produce and breed year round and will set up a perpetual grow.

Praying this happens, but not getting my hopes up. This whole system I've been ready to pull the trigger on for some time now.

...are a couple of the best flavor combinations in existence. When it comes to munchies, this is straight stoner porn.

If your a foodie you'll probably digg the port and Herb Triscuits*, but for sheer munchible action, the double sharp (or sharp if you like more mellow) and Classic Thins are perfection preserved. (*note, Be careful when trying new Triscuit flavors. I think the guy who comes up with half their flavors chain smokes cigars.)

My temporary Fallout looking deck and trim setup. I gotta go this cheap because my tasted are expensive(ish) and I have to save every dime to make them happen.

When I'm done it'll be a plywood garden room, weather sealed to my 5th wheel. When it gets too cold I'll just open up my window and door. I have a bada$$ super efficient forced air propane furnace. I'll be able to heat it in minutes. I may not insulate right away but will eventually. It makes sense financially to just buy a couple more 2x4 tents for $70-$100 instead of a $450-$600 giant low profile tent. Any plants in the veg cycle dont need one anyway. It'll be nice all that oxygen and I'll install vents with powered fans and and flaps. I'm setting up a 400-600aHr battery array with a 1500w inverter and 1000w monocrystalline solar array. I may go as high as 2000w, but not yet. I've got other things to do more important than COBs for houseplants. I'm glad I already have a lot of this stuff.

I've been planning this build for 3 yrs. The combinationof the new super efficient solar panels and grow light tech is making my build possible. When I build it I'll publish on this grow diary.

I'll be a cross between...

But not wet, and smaller water feature. Maybe one that grows plants. And my pants will be along the walls to give me room to finally play my VR again. That's another thing I need, the wireless module for my Rift.

The Chocolate Nepal hates most soil. I need to start watering in smaller amounts. These pots don't drain like my smartpots. My next plants will be back in smartpots.

The Banana Ice Cream aren't so sensitive to moisture.

Bummer on the mites, I just used the sprayer on my last few plants to avoid the bath, made it easier.

That idduno sure is taking its time, kinda like my 9#s. How many hours of direct sun are you getting now, I’m down to about 4.

I don't really know. Haven't paid attention in quite a while. It started really really late for some reason. All the girls were the same age. It started flowering just as the other were starting to thicken. It's almost a month behind.

I keep forgetting to water it (I usually do it early in the morning and don't remember till late morning to early afternoon). Trimming had me exhausted. Even with the trim bowl. 8lbs total to hand trim (tighten up) I'm not done with the first yet. But it's because I've been doing stick trim and machine trimming. Now that that's all done I can focus on the final trimming. I'll spend a few long days and nights to get it done. It'll go fast.

I still got 34oz from Banana Ice Cream #2. Not bad considering I gave up 5%-10% to the mites and that little storm chopped the top off the plant. I recovered about 1lb from the storm damaged top. Would probably have been 1-1.5lbs fully finished. So a little over 3lbs from that plant. I'm not complaining, hehe.

I am so bummed. I clipped this freebie from that perfect Orange Creamsicle x Chocolate Diesel pheno. I guess it'd be an S1, maybe, not sure. Sitting there tightening up the Creamsicle with a hand trim... and I f^ck'n knew I felt it as soon as the trimmers sliced. I haven't found another bean in over 2lbs of rough trim. Though I did let it run long, so there is a possibility of other bananas.

I think I just mightah killed a unicorn.

Chocolate Nepal, pretty sure that lower preflower is male. This is on the colloidal silver branch. I've found no pollen preflowers on any other branches.

Banana Ice Cream #4, this is not the colloidal silver branch. The whole plant herm'd (which I'm fine with). As soon as I'm sure I see pollen flowers on the Chocolate Nepal, BIC#4 goes outside. The sunlight hours are only a little shorter than the tent and she's used to the temps so she should finish out just fine.
