QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -Licenses have been approved for cultivation centers and dispensaries across Illinois, with one dispensary and one cultivation center coming to the our area. However, this hasn't been without concerns.

The location of the dispensaries has been the biggest concern locally when it comes to medical marijuana.

For example, the dispensary Herbal Remedies LLC. faced opposition for its location in Quincy.

State regulations forced the business away from the downtown area. The owner now plans to open near 48th and Broadway. The city council approved a zoning change for the dispensary. But area businesses, like County Market, disagreed with the council.

"Traffic is always a concern for us," Rich Niemann, CEO & President of Niemann Foods said. "Every one of our parking lots has a layout that has a purpose and anytime there's a major change to that we're very concerned. I asked for some additional time to study that. I was not granted that, but we did request that."

Mike Mahair, President of State Street Bank, also voiced concerns over traffic with a bank branch at 48th and Broadway. Mahair says it's already a high traffic spot which could cause problems for customers going in and out.
