How do I wire up a fan controller to a cap/vortex fan?

It's a rotary fan controller with 2 black wires and 1 green.

I'm not sure which wires I should connect them to on the fan and I didn't really want to cut the main cord on the fan.

Please help!!

Thanks.

Connect the hot black wire from your control to the black wire in the fan j-box box that comes from the plug in cord. Then connect the load from your control to the other end of the other end of the wire that you took off to connect the hot from. Your basically breaking the hot/black wire on the plug on the fan and connecting it to the controller.

Also you could take that speed control and a two gang box and put a male cord on the 2 gang box with a 110 volt outlet. Take the male cord wiring and connect all the ground together with the outlet, connect the neutrals together with the outlet, and take the black from the cord attach it to the hot on the control and then take the load from the controller and attach it the outlet. Now you'll have a removable plug and play fan speed controller.
