What do you guys feel is the best time schedule for vegging. 24 hours or 18/6? I've always just done 24 hours but I read somewhere that plants grow while resting, I assume during the 6 hours of dark.

Weed weed pants don’t do anything in the dark but stretch for light. They basically hibernate.

So they can be grown with 24 hr veg. Should grow faster and more compact.

That said. It requires more care and nutrients to thrive.

I use 18/6 after trying all 3 common time schedules.

But the breeder of my seeds also uses 18/6 and I think that may be a factor as well. My plants were very stressed with no dark period. So I had worse results.

Only way you can know is to try it in your own system.

I prefer 24/7. As said before I can pop in whenever. I ScrOG and have a long veg cycle so stretching isn’t ideal for me. I tried both in the past and didn’t see enough to make me run a second timer. I have recently contemplated it to try and reduce energy usage but I would rather have my veg tent at a nice high 70’s then dropping to the mid 60’s for a few hours. That’s me though. I would also love for some one to chime in who ran a side by side with clones from the same plant with the same grow medium and feed.

It depends what strain I’m growing and what it likes. 18/6 for the most part. Whatever you decide to try I would stick with for those plants veg life. Pretty sure they develop a rhythm. I find 24/7 to not have much advantage besides convenience, although I have used it for said convenience

24/0 stimulates more growth imo. It’s all personal preference.

I do 24/0 and have since I started growing in early 2001. I was sold on it early on and have done it that way ever since.

If electricity or high temps are a big concern you’re more than welcome to do 18/6 instead.

Thank you guys. I will keep with the 24/0. I thought there might be a benefit to 18/6. I have a project going where I plan on taking clones from a mother so that may be a good time to experiment with 24/0 and 18/6

Here is what I’ve found , works for my environment.
Growing region is key.
I start with 24/7, 4 weeks from clone transplant , solo cup
Then up pot to 2 gals, 18/6 3 weeks
Then up pot to final pot, 5 gal SOG setup, 16/8 3 weeks
Then flip once 8 dominant branches have established well.
Strain depending this works for most all hybrids
Disclaimer, We run 1000’s at a time
If you are doing say a few plants, run the veg longer and SCROG net them for higher yeilds and go to largest container for flower flip that you can possible fit .
You see we also do longer term on pure strain in 30 gal fabric pots

@Jack og dang that is a set up man. I'm going to try that light schedule as well. Seems like how it would be in nature. Slowing start cutting the light. Well thank you sir.

This was a good read. I am going to put mine in 24-0 today. I like being able to check on them and if it helps keep them shorter it is useful.

I’ve been noticing a few days-week of droopy adjustment period when I abruptly through em into flower. Was thinking about trying this and ease into it.

The slow transitions work better and much more responsive to flower switch.
