Heres what I do :
A couple years ago I had dehydration problems and found the following to make dehydration a non issue.
I leave the water up pretty high all through veg(trying to promote more latteral rooot growth too). I might drop it an inch or so from the planting deck but all during veg I am always above the bottom of the basket. If I am moving the plants to another system for flower I will continue to leave the water level high for a week or so in flower and then slowly move it down to just under the basket. I have seen plants dehydrate from dropping water level too soon. I have found that there is no real rush needed in dropping the water level to under the basket. But I am generally there by the second week in flower. Dont drop the water level abruptly, do it over time.
