want to take up close pix?

So I have a Pentax K-x and 2 lenses, 18/55 and a telephoto 55/300, I want to take good macro shots but not crazy about 800$+ for a macro lens. What are my options? and will it affect the ability to use the autofocus. Do I just buy a doubler and just use manual focus? Thanks guys

auto fucus with macro settings from 4-5 feet away,zoomed with the smaller lens.gotta use a stand/tripod from that distance zoomed but it should take awesome pics like that.

I'm no expert, but I have used a trick where you take the basic lens and flip it around.
