I'm gonna put my plant's in canna coco, I'm a little confused... do you just soak it and let it run-off, then soak it with nutrient added water? Do you need some kind of meter to check the ppm's? I don't want to kill them now. And another couple questions...
What are ppm's, and how do you check them? Is R.O. water run-off water?
:worried

Hey Stone, I have only heard good things about canna coco. Dont think you need to pre-flush, maybe someone could chime in that uses canna. PPM=parts per million TDS=Total Dissolved Solids R.O. water=Reverse Osmosis Water. My tap water is about 700 ppms=horrible. I bought my own reverse osmmosis water filter run my tap water through it and the water comes out 5 ppm. Basically I am taking out all the TDS out of the tap water. I have to add cal-mag to RO water because its to clean. You can pick up a ppm meter and ph meter for apout 30$ each. I freaked when I checked my tap water. Well worth the investment. You need to keep your water at a PH of 5.7to 6.0 in coco. Hope this helps. RB:flower:party

Man I ordered the wrong stuff, instead of Canna Coco, I ordered Empire Organic's "Coco coir". Any thought's on using this instead? I can just order the Canna and just get it a day or two later....

Just checked the ppm of the coco with RO water and runoff was 860 ppms!!! Even though my tap water is 650 ppms I used it to flush with hot water and then I used the RO for the last part of the flush and now the runoff is 80 ppms. Does the coco naturally turn salty from the coco itself drying out or from nutes not being absorbed into it and drying on the outside of the coco? :flower RB
Do you still use liquid karma in cocos
If so whats your schedule like with it

I used botanicare large compressed brick coir. I flushed it with my 88 ppm tap water that was ph adjusted to 5.8.
The rinse water came out at 137 ppm and a ph of 5.9.

I add teas weekly made from ewc , molasses, myco , tricoderma etc. On tea day I skipped the calmag , well after 2 weeks developed a mild calcium and magnesium deficiency. Started back on the calmag and all good now .

Gonna give COCO a shot. Picked up some suleaves bricks recently. How many of you mix with perlite? What pros and cons come from blending it? I have a huge bag of perlite left so I mixed it 33% perlite-- 67% coco. I have to use RO water since my tap water is 650ppms setting out for 24 hrs! I have cal-mag also and pbp veg and pbp bloom, liquid karma. Anything I am missing? RB
@Rootbound Where you source your coco from is key. Also key is how the supplier processes the coco. As coco is derived from coconut husks the coco can be very high in salts. Proper processing and buffering is important. @Tnelz is accomplished with coco you might ask him for assistance in either a PM or he can be found in his superthread Tnelzs "about whatever".

Here is some more info on coco

Great article you posted @pigfarmer

I've started using diatomite to mix with my coco. It's my first run with it but so far results are outstanding.
These are 5.5 weeks old and have been topped twice and LST religiously every day.

man I smoke too much. Just realized this thread is from 08 geeshhh lol
pig farmer, and zoolander are the reason I started using coco, I've been telling people recently I've been playing in coco for 5 or 6 years but seeing this old thread made me realize it's been more like 7 or 8 years. Mulehunter has been bringing up some old threads lately
