Here's some more, these are from the anti-fun state Utah but still beautiful place. Mushrooms should be sold alongside the roads in these places. Castle Valley, UT. Heading out for a day on the mountain bike.

While wondering through our family's land I found a large bass trapped in a mud puddle. View attachment 591978
He was in pretty bad shape.
But I knew that there were no known ponds in this area, so I followed the depression in the land and found a small pond no one in the family has seen before. I call it snake pond. There were 3 snakes on it when I walked up. A copperhead, a water mocassin, and a king snake. All slid away before I could capture them in a pic.View attachment 591982
Pretty sure thats a carp....

more pics. Longs is on my bucket list. When does the shuttle run to the top? Every hour? 90 minutes?

Yeah, the shuttle is the best. Not sure on the schedule. I also enjoy the tiki bar at the top with bikini clad women handing out free margaritas to all that make it to the top.

After a few hours of hiking you make it to the boulder field. 2 miles of VW sized boulders to walk over.

Then you make it to the Keyhole. Lots of people should stop here but don't. Example, Dad with 8 year old son I saw forcing his crying boy to push on, guess he forgot they had to hike all the way down too. Some people. You will run into lots of people that may or may not annoy you, Long's is very bad for crowds...but a landmark that had to be done. And it is fucking awesome, just all those people.

And past the Keyhole, its's two more miles to the summit. Past the keyhole you want to be sober, lol.

Thank you for the pictures, but you forgot the bikini girls. Next time.

I didn't think there would be that much traffic that high up. I thought everyone goes into the park so they can stop in the middle of the road and take selfies with elk. Last year we were coming down to eat lunch in Granby and there was a park ranger who was trying to manage tourists trying to get close to a moose and her calf. Flippin tourists and selfie sticks. Put down the camera and enjoy the experience. The only thing they remember is taking a million pictures, not actually enjoying the activity.

It's crazy to me that the 'old' route, the only way up and around was backwards up Fall River. Google image searching the flood is saddening, although the new route of the river in my 'spot' has created some great structure. I can't wait until the road opens.

I'm amazed at the sheer ignorance of the average weekend trekker. I like to snowshoe around Guanella Pass, there is a small private lake that has a natural population of greenback cutthroat, there is also ruins from a very old homestead that used to belong to the Coors family. I was lucky enough to d o some sidework for someone important and we were given permission to fish and hike around. Amazing. The history around this state, mining, building road and rails into and through the mountains, is something else.

I still am able to find solitude in and around the park. It's a special place to me
