Thailand has very strict pot laws. Cambodia is a pot paradise...
Yeah, I've got a strong urge to just hold out and not do anything while in Thailand, at least in Bangkok for sure where the chances of getting popped is the highest by far. I'm going down south to the Krabi area only 3 days after getting to Thailand, and my research is indicating strongly that cannabis is much more tolerated down there. In fact, they have a few "Thai Rastas" down in those parts who own bars and such and it's known that they sell stuff. Now, common sense tells you that if I were able to find out that info so readily on the internet, these Thairastafarians must be pretty notorious on their home turf. So why don't they get busted, you might ask? I'm thinking that they certainly must have "arrangements" with the local police. In fact, one of these bars (which I intend to visit, because of course I must) is on the same street as the police station and only about 25 yards away from it. It will be tough to resist doing any for the five days or so that I'll be in southern Thailand before moving on to Cambodia... especially if one of these rastas produces something interesting looking rather than the oxidized and unpalatable brown stuff that is seen most of the time.
Once I get to Cambodia, yeah, no paranoid vibes necessary. Besides, I don't smoke anymore, so I'll be using a small handheld vaporizer which is obviously far more discreet than smoking. My thought was to leave it brand new and clean until I get to Cambodia, because that way it obviously is brand new if it gets pulled from my bag at any point. I plan to bring some dried peppermint leaf with me along with a printed out article extolling the virtues of vaporizing peppermint as an alternative medicine modality for clearing the lungs (I'm curious to try this out for real anyway). And so if some overzealous airport officer pulled it out and eyed it with suspicion, I would explain that it is a personal medical device and that I plan to use it to vaporize peppermint to clear my lungs of the air pollution of Bangkok and other cities with lots of diesel fumes. (Again, this is not a bad idea in reality.) That's unlikely though because if it is still like I remember it in my past trips, they really don't search farang tourists who are arriving.
I'm really hoping to find some interesting "bush Cambodian" because I know it's not all exactly the same, there are various lines and things. What I hear is that the best stuff can be found in Kampot, where I will be going. So that should be interesting to see what that means.
