Another not great pic, but this is my new breeding project that I've been working on. Forum cut cookies x Ogre og. One Tough Cookie #2. Bigger yield than Forum, and definitely the best yielding cut of cookies I've worked with (I've done Orange, Forum, Animal, Sin Mint, Platinum etc.). And I think it picked up an added layer of frost from the Ogre, which is super frosty. Smokes like total couch lock indica.

Yah that SLH is some fire bro. Very nice. Congrats. I never overlook freebies. You can find a gem. I'm doing an all freebie run now. 16 of 17 popped.

Thanks bro. The Private Reserve OG freebie pheno I sprouted felt both lucky and earned if you know what I mean. Earned, because to get that freebie, first I think I lost an entire order to customs (going through Attitude seedbank). Then when I bought another round of seed packs, it came through but I got skunked on literally everything I bought. Zero keepers. I think that round I picked up Skywalker OG and Lemon OG from DNA, and Buddha Tahoe OG from Cali Connect. At best I got a couple stable so-so phenos that I ditched for the better clone-only stuff I was already running from the scene. Mostly I got unstable herm phenos. The Private Reserve cut I heard was finicky from other people. My lucky freebie PR pheno turned out very stable, above average yield for an og, lots of lemony diesel classic og terps, and is very friendly to work with.

Even if you just get one sick keeper out of the 16 that popped, I bet you'll feel victorious! Good luck with your run bro.

Super Lemon Haze mother in flower, so dank I actually found sap coming off the trichs one time. Pics or it didn't happen.
Oh come on!!! thats a dab of corn syrup!!! LOL! i really am kidding. And i agree with you on the Fems. I'm not a breeder, but I've chucked up a couple things. I have used Regs only but the next Chuck might be a reverse similar to yours. Amnesia Lemon or one of the "BOMBs" to help bulk up.... something. Not sure yet. CONGRATULATIONS !!!

I've run Lemon Amnesia very recently. Big yield for sure. Little bit lanky and stretchy. I was in Amsterdam the year the Amnesia Haze hit over there (2008). The whole city was smoking that cut at the time.

The sap thing was pretty cool. A friend of mine who is talented at growing had it happen to him one round. I had never seen or heard of that before. Then the very next run I did, I saw it on one of my SLHs. Don't think I ever saw it again after that.

Yeah it's pretty far out shit! I've definitely never seen it in my own garden. But I do have a gem of a stardawg F2 that I would say if any of our strains could do it, it would be that one. it turns WHITE!!!
And the Amnesia Lemon IS on the lanky side...but then again i finished some "Cookies" awhile back...NOW THAT'S A LANKY BITCH. lookin' like Angelina Jolie n stuff. LOL!!!

Your project has revealed great results! Congratulations.

Would you share your water use strategy?

Thanks man. Sure. Happy to share.

I've gone through a few different watering strategies over the years. Mostly DTW. Started out with a custom soil/coir mix and used that for years. Gives you organics in your dirt, but is more aerated than soil by itself. Did this first in a few different types/sizes of pots, then removed the pots altogether and grew in soil/coir beds. I wouldn't recommend soil beds. You do get some major yields by letting the root zone go everywhere vs circling in a pot. That's what convinced me to try it. But you lose a lot of control along the way and wasn't worth it for me. Later I tried a recirculating hydroponic brain/bucket system. This was the method used to win the most recent cup. In some ways it's a great system. Especially if you need to run low plant numbers. But after messing with that for a while and discovering all of the problems inherent to a system like that (there are many), I arrived at a solution that I think will fix all of those shortcomings while reducing overhead costs as well. I'm rolling it out now. Bascially DTW top-feed automated irrigation system dripping over a fully hydroponic medium. I'm getting my best results ever with that and it uses very little water. The bucket system I ran used insane amounts of water and made the nute bill very high. I will be using probably a quarter of the water and nutes now vs the way I was doing it before.

Stardawg is super dank. I had it. Lost it. Miss it. Closest thing I have to that now is a 35% cut of Wifi og, which is so frosty it has very little green to be seen. I think the sap might have just been too much carbs. I doubt it was anything special I did to it. I like to push the carbs to get strong terpenes. Might have pushed it a little far that time lol, but that batch was really tasty. I just thought it would be a cool pic to show, since I'd never seen it before.

My partner just went through the same transition...fkood/drain type system with pots not the table. And has started over from scratch. He's going with the drip thang...i just use 5 gal DWC or , 5 gal pots or " bags"
the hydro has pros n cons just as the hand water mix/soil. But, it's my job so I can't really complain about ANY aspects of this stuff.

If switching to 5 gal pots, I would recommend Smart Pots or something like that where the entire pot is aerated. As opposed to the traditional plastic pot that only has airholes on the bottom. It helps in a number of different ways including yield. I see big commercial farms in LA running big plastic pots in their big grows. And every time, it's standard operating procedure for those guys to use harsh chemicals as a standard preventative to the PM that they would undoubtedly get otherwise. When all they need to do is stop overwatering and get more aeration in their growing medium. No chemicals needed.

All popular growing methods have pros and cons. I don't think there is any one perfect way to get to the finish line. It's all about what you want and what your end goal is.

It's definitely trial-and-error brother. I got a late start I guess you could say. Didn't actually get into it until I was my mid-thirties and I'll be 42 in April so... No one taught me shit LOL which is why if I can help a noob out I will... And I JUST recently began doing it as a career. And for the last year I've had a mentor. He hasn't really shown me a butt load that I did not already kind of know, but he has put up some capital:-)
And I guess the most important thing that I've learned is try to stick with a method and a couple of strains for a good while because it can take months or years to dial in stardog using Pro mix and whatever or Hydroponics what have you. This is why I don't do a whole lot of breeding or chucking LOL... I'm doing good to get a gram per watt which is the goal.

Brilliant response, actually I totally agree in that humidity(as in soil moisture content) is important to grasp if you really want to prevent disease and chemical usage. Smart Pots are only as good as they are smart which is under control of the grower.

agree or disagree.

Available water management strategies are limiting the number of promising phenos total?

I think the current political climate and how that affects gardens is a bigger limiter of potential phenos. Once everyone is growing in airplane hangars in the New World (recreational), lots more phenos will happen. In Cali for recreational, you can't bring in clones to start a new legal grow. Apparently for legal reasons you have to start from seed. Ridiculous, but for that reason alone new phenos will be everywhere and the seed business will catch a boost. Just my two cents.

For water management affecting phenos, you can always opt to run a high plant count setup and run many small plants instead of growing huge Christmas trees like most people do. This is the way I learned how to grow initially, run numbers. If you do that, it's a little less risky to go on a pheno hunt, because if you need to ditch a herm or a generally bad pheno for whatever reason, you sacrifice only a small part of your run. If you're running 4 plants a light or something, then yeah you are potentially limiting your options... or gambling on the success of your run with unknown phenos. I saw one big grow in the desert that ran 48 plants per light after vegging for a week. Legit setup. Especially if you're phenotyping. You can get a lot done that way on the quick, with minimal water usage to get the data you want.

Interesting thoughts @Cherokey
The current political climate is my biggest obstacle but also the reason I thrive

Question what is your definition of over watering ?
Example would you water / feed every other or possible every third day based off of a hand watering 20/5gal per 1k in a 5x5 area

Great to hear the stardawg f2's are turning out nice.
