I wasn't 100% sold on autos I just figured that it would be easier for my 1st grow. I was looking to just use soil. I wanted to stay away from jumping two feet into my grow unit I grow something.
You should do S1 for your first grow.. That way youre not discouraged because of males

Clackamas Cootz’s (Super Soil) Mix !

Clackamas Cootz is an “organic canna forum” guru, and his soil mix is solid and incredibly simple. If you want to make a water-only, living organic soil, try out this mix:

Base mix:

  1. 1/3 sphagnum peat moss
  2. 1/3 aeration ( pumice, lava rock, rice hulls, etc.)
  3. 1/3 HIGH QUALITY compost and/or worm casting
To every 1 cubic foot (~7.5 gallons) of the base mix add :

  1. 1/2 cup kelp meal
  2. 1/2 cup crab shell meal
  3. 1/2 cup neem or karanja cake
  4. 1 cup gypsum
  5. 1 cup CaCO3 (oyster shell flour, dolomite lime, calcitic lime, etc.)
  6. 4-5 cups rock dust per cf Rock dust should be super fine: the consistency of flour.
That’s it! The key here is quality compost/worm castings. That is the LIVING part that makes this whole soil mix work. So it must be HIGH QUALITY. Water with dechlorinated water and you are set!! No pHing, no checking the TDS of run off, no cal/mag, no BS!

I'm trying this out right now big yogi. Its kind of a relief to just have to add water :D

What the shit did I just read lol.
An s1 is a self polinated reversed female.usually done with elite clone only strains.it means the pollen was taken from the donor plant
A regular feminized seed is just another female that was reversed to another female.
Neither has nothing to do with potency or anything else.and they will all be females.

Id start with a DWC in a 5 gal myself. Or just use a huge 27 gallon so youre not having to constantly add water every day. the bucket would cost you $15 to setup with a drain valve. Get yourself a cheap air pump and air stones from a pet store and some easy and clean nutes like GH 3 part. You can veg out 1 plant to a 4x4 scrog and just flip once the net is full. Hydro is super easy. No need for autos, just grow the seeds you have. $500 doesn't seem like enough money to me though, I think you need to double that to handle any unknowns that pop up mid grow.

don't stress, its super easy to grow some good dank. Keep it simple

I think he needs auto cause in such a small space it will be hard to control the heat.he can put a couple autos in buckets under 1 cmh 315w and have a nice crop every 70 days.mephistio makes some strong autos.dont sleep on em

So you think a grand is what it should cost to start a grow? That really seems like a lot. With that grand what would you buy to start?

You said you were willing to build a cabinet? what's the largest you can do? What's your foot print? How tall? I think you need to budget for $1000 as there are always extra variables that you don't account for. I think it costs $10,000 for a nice room myself and some people think it costs $100,000 for a decent room. I just think you need extra money for later, you'd be surprised what you learn with your first grow that you didn't anticipate.

What's your water like for example? do you need a dechlorinator? RO? are you going to buy water from a store? there are so many variables at play when planning a grow, each are dependent on individual circumstances.

can you let it stink? does it need to be ultra stealth? each of those questions adds another expense depending on the answer

As I'm looking over a few sites over the weekend. I think I'm going to go with a 4ft wide by 2ft deep and 5ft tall tent. Most likely a Mars Hydro 300w LED light possibly 2 of them. The cabinet I can make will be smaller then the tent I'm looking at. I know the first thing I need to do is either make a cabinet or buy one, then lights I'm sure I will upgrade my light once I have had a few harvest under my belt. I know I will have a ton of other stuff I'm going to need but no of that will matter if I don' get a light and a ideal place for it to grow in. I will by a carbon filter, fan once I get the tent set up.

Is buying a decent LED light and a tent a good place to start?

Don't buy Mars. If you go with LED either build (it is easy) or buy a Timber or a kit from RapidLED.com or cobkits.com. If those routes seem to expensive then start with a much simpler, cheaper HPS or T5. Good LEDS are still quite spendy.

Ok so if I was to buy that tent. What size light should I build or use to make sure the light works in the tent to the fullest

Also, think about height. If you take out 8 to 12" for modest pots or hydro buckets and then take out 8 or so inches then take out your spacing of light source to canopy, for light fixture your very quickly down to 2 feet for plant height and many strains will grow much taller.

A 3 COB bar would do. 36 to 50 watts per cob would do. I use a 3 cob light in my veg tent and for flower you might need a little more light. The rule of thumb is 36W to 50W per Sq ft.

And don't forget the 12" for yo-yo hangers (you can easily modify them though;))
I would also consider Quantums from HLG, when you can get them..(about the most efficient stuff on the market these days..sorta like a huge COB..

I like DGPs setup, that's pretty much what I would envision for a small hydro box. 1 big container with 2-3 small plants in there. I don't know much about LEDs and all that, I just use t5s to veg and 1k HPS for flower and grow bushes so I'm not much help in that department, sorry. I would use a 600 myself and make it a 3 deep x 4 wide x 6 tall space if possible but that's just me. there's too many options honestly, just need to pick something and go with it. get them 10" and flip. scrog as much as possible, there'd be enough room to get some dank flowers. the bins are 16" tall, 10" screen so that's 2' basically. Then you need 12" between hood and canopy, that's 2' left for kolas and 1' left for the hood. done. could kill it in this setup.

If the other bulbs are super cool, you could easily do the size box you are planning and have enough room, I'm sure the LEDs are much cooler than the HPS
