The question of who should lead the weed industry isn’t just about professional fields. The final—and arguably most important—piece of the puzzle is ensuring that the cannabis industry is as diverse as the population of people who actually consume weed. To put it simply, that means ensuring that the industry isn’t taken over by rich white men.

But unfortunately, this is already happening. A recent survey of cannabis business owners found that 81 percent of all marijuana business owners are white. And that number probably fails to reflect how white-dominated the industry really is. That’s because the survey counts a person with “any ownership stake in a business, not necessarily a controlling stake” as an “owner.” As a result, a company in which only 10 percent is owned by a black person and 90 percent is owned by white people would still register in the survey as a business with a black owner. Similarly, the cannabis industry appears to be going through some troubling changes when it comes to gender. Recent stats show that in 2015, 36 percent of all cannabis businesses had women executives. Last year, that number had fallen to 26.9 percent.

Fortunately, even 2017’s lower number is still higher than the number of women executives across all U.S. businesses, which is around 23 percent. But it is not a good sign that the percentage of women-run weed businesses has dropped so dramatically. So, who should run the cannabis industry? Anybody and everybody. People of all demographics and professions use weed. And the industry should reflect that diversity. Otherwise, we will waste the revolutionary potential of cannabis. And rich white men will turn weed into just another commodity to make them richer.

Doctors usually take graft from the Big Pharm , and they would do it with weed too if they had the chance..IMO
Luckily My old school doc is pretty cool..He didn't recommend weed to me, but wrote my MMJ recommendation anyway..He is still (over 1.5 yrs) amazed at my progress as far as pain and insomnia (TOOK HIS PRESCRIBED OPIODS FOR 10 YRS) ..
Back in the day..I had no idea of the medicinal properties in Cannabis, but smoked for the sheer enjoyment..Today, I am pain free and sleep like a kid again:) STILL SMOKE FOR THE FUN AS WELL..lol
Could you imagine this..LOL

I am a firm believer that cannabis has many great and valuable medical properties. That said, I think the California/Colorado medical model of just paying a doc to write a script for whatever ailment does a great disservice to those people who have serious health problems such as seizures, wasting related problems, ms, etc. It is what it is but it makes it way harder to defend medical use when you have docs advertising in the back of the local alternative mags, next to the escort, offering $420 dollar appointments.

My weed isn't medical, I like to get high. If you are "medicating" before you sit down to watch a movie/play a video game/eat some Oreos then you are just getting high...and that's fine. It doesn't need a fake ass cover story.

So no, I would loathe to have pot docs take over the industry as I think they are sheisters and they cheapen the medical field. That doesn't apply to regular docs that view weed as just another tool in the arsenal of treatment.

I agree. I have a med card because I had knee surgery 10 years ago. Lol but I’m here just getting high. Some of these guys brainwash themselves into believing they are medicating because it sounds better and more accepted.
Nowadays if I go around saying I’m high people will assume your using prescription drugs. What da fuck?

This morning I am high as a motherfucker. Last night on the same dose I was medicated so I could get my solid 6-7 hours sleep. Whatever your calling it it's medicine there is no doubt about that. :) When it replaces the harshest most addicting drugs doctors can shove down your thought... it's Medicine. I am fucking high.....

The situation is what it is, I don't knock people for grabbing a card to grow more. I think it's a bullshit hoop to have jump through, but eh, whatever. I wasn't and am not comfortable with registering my dope grow, but if people want to go that route I can't blame them as you might as well take whatever legal protection exists. I very much appreciate CO and being able to have some number of legal plants without registering, it just makes it so much easier to do things.

Um ... I really don't understand why you hate white people so much. Is it just me, or is it racism? It should be more loyal to people of other ethnic groups. It is no one's fault that they do not want to develop the cannabis industry. If you want to take an active part in the development of this industry, then stop hating white people and start acting. For example, you can start with the development of CBD or kratom, as was done for example in kratomgallery.com. This will be a great start ... you will soon be able to switch to grass. The future is in your hands, take action, don't just talk...
