fingers crossed brother lol this first rdwc is giving me killer anxiety
LOL man there are probaly enough empty DWC buckets to fill the grand canyon of all the people who tried and finally gave up.Just saw a guy the other night that posted a pic of a stack of empty CC buckets @RooR5mm and went back to coco.I see it all the time.Stick with it man and tame that Beast....Its frustrating as fuk but once you get it you got it.

do you run any of these teas i see people keep mentioning? or is that similar to hydroguard in some respect?
i admit i have much more research to do on all things rdwc related. learning on the fly!

I feel ya Rosco, I've been fighting CS UC roots and I just can't get it going, always something to make it start to turn brown.

I kinda jumped on here because I have been fighting this since March or Feb way too long, all I have done is kill a few plants and barely keeping the rest alive, one brown root session after another, I just get some nice white growth and bam!!! I used UC Roots as recommended, RO water after a couple months of trying tap.
Sounds like hydrogaurd might be the shit for me too. It's my first Dwc grow, have a couple years coco experience.

Hydroguard is the same thing as the teas,is bacillus bacteria, the tea is time consuming.i have enough other shit running 3 rooms of all kinds of shit and a big flower room I dont have time to make compost bacteria teas when I can buy hydroguard by the gallon of a 60 a pop on amazon

Brown algae, drop 2ml per gallon of hydroguard in there and be done with it.
Roots dont look bad,Do not run H202 at ALL in your system. That shit is bad man,It kills off everything but also creates the perfect environment for explosive bacterial growth after it leaves the system.I only use a small drop in seed starting water to keep seeds from hardening off when transplanted.I would not change the res on sunday.Leave the hydroguard in there to build there army.In a few days your gonna see root growth like youve never seen.I would wait 10 days before you change the water. If you have tanks to store the water in its best to get your hydroguard in there a couple days before and aerate the water with an aquarium pump.
Thats what i use in my top off reservoir and it stays crystal clean.Looks like you got past the first step of taking some solid advice,Congrats. The rest is easy

BRO THESE BITCHES ARE EXPLODING LMAO THANK YOU FOR THE HELP. i may have some followup questions but hydroguard is in, amino treatment is out!

The thought of a new feed system is like a start all over, and I don't know where to start as far as feeding schedules, cost and all that.

I wouldnt put anything organic in dwc.i use to back in the day but found the less I put in the better all the way around.using 2 part flora duo and calmag till bloom gets me through veg with big roots and healthy plants.all them additives aren't gonna give you a bigger plant or a faster veg time so there really pointless.2 and a half week old clones in rdwc no joke.

Wish I never saw that pic, it seems to have given me the hydro itch. That's a nice little setup, from what I see. Totally do-able, here.

Yeah man that shit is good if your all about set em and forget em.

heisenbubble i could use your advice! so i obviously noticed growth on top and under the hood after using hydroguard that first time but can you take a look at these pictures of my first 6 plants? i matched up roots to the plant by number for ease of identification. the bottom part is white and top part is whiteish but that middle part...am i losing the battle? do i need to use something on top of hydroguard? im worried!

looks like ph burn,Are you dumping the ph directly in the buckets,?
Alot of the bad growth you have wont get better but new white growth should take over.I wouldnt worry man,Hydroguard will keep the problem from getting worse but it wont remove the damaged roots already. If the plants look ok than i wouldnt worry about. That looks more like an organic stain or ph burn.IS the water in your res clear and clean or is there shit growing on the hoses and sides? You might need to do a double dose of HG to get it under control.Ive had to put 4ML per gallon before

let me supply some additional information while im at it to make sure i am on the right track...

so my procedure so far has been i fill up about 80 gallons of my RO water in my 100 gallon reservoir. i mix my nutes including hydroguard now and fill my under current system (seems to take between 70-80 gallons to get desired water levels). ive then been filling the reservoir with about another 40 gallons of ro water and mix in my additives (no base nutes) and ph the water and attach it to my epicenter through the float valve to maintain water level.

my system is running at 67-69 degrees via a chiller...my reservoir is not chilled, is this problematic?

my mixing reservior is clean and my epicenter is pretty clean...in my 6 connected buckets (plant sites) yes there was shit growing on the incoming air tubes. i attached a pic of the brown shit i noticed yesterday when doing my change out.

as far as ph burn goes...what i do is fill up a gallon of water from my epicenter and drop 2.5ml of ph down (advanced ph down) into that gallon of water. i then dump it into the epicenter and let it circulate to all the plants. i could try using less ph down, maybe 1ml per gallon and do it 2.5 times if you think its ph burn.

overall, do you see any issues with that i just mentioned? should i try incorporating some great white? sorry for the long read i just dont want to lose these babies!

thank you.

your top off res is breeding bad bacteria,You need to aerate it.Water sitting still at room temp is pythium city.
Get your self an aquarium carbon filter pump and screw to the side and add the hydroguard to your top off res,
Dollars to donuts your worse plants are closest to the front of the system where your top off line comes in.Get one of these in there man to add oxygen to the top off res,Will also breed the good bacteria that keeps your system full.Thank me later

Also get a dry erase board and put it on the wall and write down your daily numbers,You can steer you main system with it.If you see the Ph dropping in your main system than raise it in the top off res to steer your PH.
I write down the top off PPM and res PPM and PH in both and know how to adjust it.

im currently using a notebook but have thought about a dry erase board.

so get one or two of these per reservoir and let it aerate my top off reservoir?

how often do i need to add back the hydroguard? can i just keep it in my top off reservoir at 2mL per gallon or should i be adding it directly to my epicenter at certain times?

you need a pump in the top off res that has a tube to lift up the water as your water level drops. And yes you absolutely need one in the top off res.No oxygenated water in a top off res is really bad about breeding bad bacteria and all your doing is filling your system with it.I got my pumps from walmart for 14 dollars a piece.I put hydroguard in it at 2 ML per gallon and it will usually build up a very nice colony within a couple days.I mark on my board whenever i add to the system which is once a week.
Once you put the filter in the top off res you will see the bad bacteria on the blue filter and after you clean it as every day goes by you will see less and less.My top off res stays sparkly clean now like a mountain creek.I use to use air stones but the filter works better and adds more DO to the water.
