How Much Do You Reduce The Everclear In Your Tincture?

I made some tincture using 120 mesh kief and it burns a bit under the tongue. How much should I let flash off before I use it? It seems too strong from an everclear standpoint.

Also, has anyone ever had tincture give them a headache the next day? I have used this hash for smoking and to make RSO but have never had a headache issue but sometimes I get one and I don't know if it is the tincture or something else. I am trying to treat insomnia.

Thanks,

Dee

Just wondering if there is still too much everclear, as though it did not evaporate enough.

My original question is how much ethenol do you boil off or evaporate for effective tincture? The alcohol is the carrier so you need some but at full strength obviously it will burn under the tongue but if it is mostly evaporated you have lost the carrier. So, how much should I reduce it?

Most of the time I remove all the alcohol, and replace it with an oil that's liquid at room temp. Then it can be put into caps, baked with, or used sublingually.

Evaporate as much everclear/solvent as you’re able... once it’s to a point of barely moving (before turning to a shatter), add a couple drops (literally a couple) of water, then add as much coconut oil as necessary for dosing.

I am not trying to make an RSO substitute, I want to absorb it sublingual. The alcohol is the carrier so I believe you have to have some amount of alcohol. Oil as a carrier works if you swallow it but then it is just like RSO or edibles and takes forever to absorb and get the effect. If your trying to sleep before a workday waiting 2 hours is not ok. I just want to know how much alcohol is good as a carrier without it being like fire water.

Tincture by definition contains alcohol otherwise it is oil not tincture.

The classic defintion of "tincture" implies the use of alcohol, glycerin, or vinegar, but many of us also call concentrated cannabinoids dissolved in oil "tincture."

I've been unable to find out which is more effective, oil tincture or alcohol tincture, but this video from Zana Medical implies that they are equally effective:

There is no contest about which is more pleasant.
I worry about long term tongue damage with alcohol tinctures.

Ok, cool did not realize oil could work that way. I was worried about the alcohol as well cause mouthwash with it have been linked to mouth cancer.

ok, so I boiled off all the everclear and just added coconut oil to make it the same concentration as the original mix then re-bottled it in the original dropper containers. Should be good to go then right?

My insomnia patient used the original formula and finally got some real sleep so i am really hoping this works the same for her. She was nearly ready to have some serious issues from no sleep. She was a non cannabis person and now she is quite convinced that for her it is miraculous.

I will also be using it for my medicine.

P.S. What would h shelf life be of oil based tincture? Should surplus be refrigerated?

Thanks,

Dee

I've made oil tincture and 190 proof alcohol from the same stains, using exactly equal amounts of herb, and haven't noticed any difference.

I leave both oil and alcohol tinctures at room temp forever, with no ill effects so far.
Some of alcohol tinc is 8 month old right now.
Don't take this as a recommendation to not refrigerate, because it could be different for some people.
