Does Cmh Need A Lighting Controller?

Sorry for all the posts on electric but I couldn’t find an answer online. I plan on switching my HPS lights for CMH. I’m going to get two 630w cmh lights and curious if these would work on a 240v titans controller or would it kill the bulbs?

Nothing I can see in a titan controller says it’s tied to a specific type light, the only parameter that matters is if the light plug is compatible with the receptacles in the controller. The voltage of your respective controller be it 120 or 240 volts is what’s significant...

If you get a CMH wired for 240 it's fine. But if you run a 120 ballast on a 240 circuit it could fry the ballast if it doesnt have some sort of fault protection built in. At the very least it just wouldn't work, at worst it could ruin it.

Just make sure to get a CMH that is rated for the same voltage as the circuit outlet and timer you're using.

Most CMH's are digi and will automatically switch to the voltage for the line but check and make sure. Sometimes they can be tied to the cord. Most will do 120/240v in the same model. 277v is usually a diff model but I doubt you ever need to worry about that

Good point. I forgot my Digi ballasts self adjust to use the input voltage also.
There is really just the plug on the ballast to consider then. I know a lot of people around here wire their 240V power with regular 120v outlets so it uses the same regular 120v plug. Just because 240V outlets are expensive.

Not that I'm recommending this. It's an easy way to fry a $300 Atomist lol...
