I was doing some yard work and noticed that in my one planter, 10 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft that I built 10+ yrs ago had some wicked awesome rich black earth.

I have also been contemplating brewing up some compost tea and been looking up various recipes. Then I had a thought. I already had a rich mature soil source. Why not use that as a source for beneficial microbes instead of going out and buying more stuff.

So my recipe:
15 L RO water in plastic water jug
~6 cups rich soil
1 cup coffee grinds
3 tablespoons molasses
Air bubbler

Has anyone ever tried this, just using good soil for a brew. Or is this just an exercise in stupidity. Any comments welcome

(Everything you suggested you should do in moderation like everything , like us for our diets )I would def get some kelp, alfalfa, insect frass , em 1 , white willow bark ( aka aspirin if you don’t want to do organics on that),fulvic acid, enzymes
There’s def more thing to add but that’s def what I would make and add to that brew to make it something competitive towards synthetic and really once you start finding right sources/diy. You won’t ever buy liquid ( dry main and and brews to help it )

A lot of this you can apply foliar every 3-14 days with a wetting agent ( just see if the product/thing is compatible in foliar for, or other thing smoked with it )

For OD organics dry based mix I use a top feed by AU called roots organics uprising ( every 2 weeks applied )
Feather Meal, Bat Guano, Fish Meal, Non Gmo Soybean Meal, Chicken Manure, Langbeinite, EarthWorm Castings, Volcanic Rock Dust, Non Gmo Alfalfa Meal, Crab Meal, Greensand, Volcanic Ash, Dolomite, Blood Meal, Fish Bone Meal and Nettle Leaf

It’s a 3 stage bag, I can really do quite a big veggie/canna garden and not feel ripped off in anyway. I don’t have the time or hassle to mix 20+ things everything to save a few bucks ( if I was a huge agriculture biz than I could see reason but I’m not )

What I was trying to get at was, I don’t want to buy kelp extract, bat guano, worm castings etc. I’ve been looking at tons of recipes and even had a list of shit to get. Then saw how much it would cost.
I just want to make a culture of beneficial bacteria, so why not use the free ones I can scoop from rich earth in my back yard? I’m providing nutrients from a bottle so I don’t need them all from a tea

Was wondering if anyone had tried anything similar

I would just use a little in my soil mix..... Sometimes I collect and use similar things diluted in water for spraying and such,i don't know if that can be considered as "brewing"....Why not,try it....:)I don't even know about the coffee grinds, may be just the other things and the soil so you will know if it is good.Sounds(and the soil looks) good to me......How long are you going to brew it?

Will just do the standard brew time, 24-36 hrs. I also gave it a shot of Voodoo Juice. A beneficial bacterial inoculant from AN, maybe they will thrive and grow in the brew or maybe not lol
