I pulled my plants and hung them to dry 6 -7 days ago. They have been at between 65%-70% humidity. The buds are almost if not ready to be trimmed and put in jars.

Can I still wash them? I was going to use 5 litre pails. The 1st pail- baking soda. The 2nd pail lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide. Then 2 rinse pails full of RO water. Would this still be advisable at this stage of drying?

Why would you want to wash them? I have never washed (because I don't spray stuff that needs to be washed off), but I wouldn't wash after they are dry; that's asking for trouble.

If The thought of smoking bugs and its poop is gonna be a turn off every time you roll a joint then I recommend gently washing the buds as instructed in your article. I would rather wind up with bud with a bit less trichome then smoke bugs.

Aren't you supposed to wash BEFORE they dry though? Wouldn't they have a higher probablitlity of getting mold (which is worse IMO then bug šŸ’©)? I've never washed but that's my mindset.

Yes, I agree you Should wash bugs and mold off as early as possible, preferably before harvest and better yet, before flowering starts. But we are dealing with where he is at right now. The baking soda will kill whatever mold spores are present so as long as he dries the plants I donā€™t think šŸ¤” mold would be an issue, but I have only washed buds that fell in mud during storms. I fight my bugs early on, and if I canā€™t win before harvest, then I count it a loss.
Mold and bugs are both equal bad guys on my no smoke list.

The OP doesn't really indicate the need for washing the buds so I guess we're both just stabbing in the dark here (although I guess because of the link it's safe to assume that it's either mold or bugs) have you tried doctor enzymes?

This was 1/2 a plant..lots of bugs and all kinds of stuff I don't want to smokešŸ¤®
..It was even worse this yr..happy I washed, even though it is very time consuming. I flash freeze my outdoor crop for fresh frozen so no drying beyond getting the wash water off.

You would probably be ok if you fan dried them before curing but i donā€™t think it will do any good since after a week drying the buds have tightened. Whats inside will stay inside.

I washed some plants this year just before harvest, as they had some mites. We had a couple NWS red flag days, where the humidity dropped down into the teens and it was pretty windy. These plants had thick hard leaves (kind of looks like iceberg lettuce after trimming), and I was able to just hose off the entire plant and it completely dried out in under an hour. (Then I sprayed the ground with neem oil to kill the mites that washed off.) I also had the majority of the steams tied up to the plant cage. (I'm sure if the stems weren't tied up they would have broken off.) I also had some branches I had clipped off and ran them under the faucet and hung them to dry. Once again within 30 minutes I was trimming them up and they were dry as a bone. The plant seemed no worse for wear (no different than a good rain soaking).

That said, I won't do it on every strain, as some are much more delicate, nor would I do it after drying the plant as the OP suggest. And the big caveat was the super low humidity, which allowed the plant to dry out real quick and I had no worries about mold/mildew.

Sounds like Northern Nevada? Same thing happened here (Reno), but my outdoor crop goes to hash, so I wash it all..Then to the freezer, sans a few colas to dry/cure for smoking. So far, I have been lucky..no Borg, but this yr, I had WPM for the 1st time ever. PIA...

No, too late, wash immediately after harvest only! That's what the article in the link you provided recommends, same in Cervantes bud washing video. If you wash now you may very well encounter mold problems in the jar?

I wash all my outdoor as it's being taken down & rough trimmed. A splash of 30% h202 in a 5 gallon bucket to wash & another 5 gallon of clean water for rinse. Cleans up the Caterpillar crap & stops any mold spores that might have got caught up in a bud from taking hold. Definitely helps clean up the end product, makes ok outdoor smoke like great outdoor. I would not dry it & then wash tho, that's asking for trouble.

Yes I agree. I didn't wash it. I wish I had, but it seems to be fine without. Next crop I will be more prepared.

Mold and bugs can happen inside too tho šŸ¤·
Ya but Indoor ya count your loses and do another grow. I would never think itā€™s a good idea to wash my buds after harvest and especially after they been drying for a few days lol šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø
Spray em off before you chop if there is that much poop on them.
Mold only happens indoors if your trying to grow more weed then your system can handle. The point of indoor is to control so you donā€™t have to deal with outdoor problems.

People have been smoking outdoor buds for thousands of years. True the daily rain of pollution in urban areas probably makes for an unhealthy addition. But I'm sure the micoplastics falling off your lights, blowing off your Mylar and raining down from the ceiling installation, along with all the nasty fire retardant chemicals found in your chair cushion, or formaldehyde out gassing from your work table, are equally problematic. And while I'm sure there are bad actors pouring shit on their plants, both in and outdoors, I'd bet more outdoor growers go full organic then indoor. (Outdoor has the advantage of millions of years of mother nature's experience in fighting of bugs, mold and mildew.) Sure if you have visible worm shit in your buds, they need to go in the trash, but I wouldn't sweat smoking a dried up bug.

(When I say "your" I mean the collective "all of us", not you personally Trustfall.)

I have never heard or known anyone to do this(indoor or outdoor) .My// outdoor plants are pristine, most bugs would be on leaves so after trimming they gone, what kind of bugs y'all got on your buds?

I would think the vast majority of bugs, bug out (ha ha) during the drying process. Common where I live to see bud worms at the end of a silk thread hanging from the drying buds. Even the mites don't just sit around on dried plant material, waiting to die. You can normally spot them congregating on the upper cut end of the stem (when the bud is hung upside down) while drying. That said, when I look under a scope, there is certainly a lot of stuff on the plants. During a six month period, there has to be hundreds of bugs that up and die while crawling around your plants. I see a fair amount of dead spiders (mainly the crab spider), ants, thrips, mites, ladybugs, flies, knats, bees, leaf hopper nymphs, and all sorts of creepy crawling things I can't name. Didn't you every watch Honey I Shrunk the Kids? There's a whole world of bugs you'll see with some magnification. I can't imagine that an outdoor grow is going to be free of dead bugs.

And that's not even talking about all the pollutants, pollens, dust, and dried material raining down all summer. I've got mow and plow guys blowing up a cload of shit in my hood every day. We've been lucky (knock on wood) this year, but last year we had almost two months of ash raining down from forest fires (hundreds of miles away). They're finding microbeads in the Artic and bottom of the ocean. So I'm sure they're on all our plants also. I'm actually not a big bud washer, but see how it could certainly make sense.
