This is my first plant. I started it under regular CFL's until I could get my tent. I transferred it from a solo cup to a 1.75 gallon pot. Here's where I think I screwed up... I have read quite a bit about root lock. I knew it had to be getting close, so I was transferring from the 1.75 to a 3 gallon. I made sure all the sides and bottom were loose before trying to drop out with the plant between my fingers for support. When it came out, Roots were interlaced across the bottom, but were long and thin. In addition, when I put everything in the 3 gallon (fabric), the plant itself felt very loose, almost like it had broken off. I dug down a small way with my finger and didn't see any breakage or damage. It would lean no matter how much I packed on the leaning side, so I put a pipe cleaner around it, and staked it out a way from the root base. Has anyone else had this happen and the plant live? I'm not super worried about losing it, but it's my 1st plant, and I'd like to see it through until the end! I really enjoy all the knowledge everyone here has, and where I've learned a tremendous amount from the mistakes that have been made, or the small things that make you more successful!

Put a stake as close to the stalk you safely can. To the point it is touching and secure it to the stake. If your running a fan turn it off. You don’t want a lot of movement with the plant at this point. Give her a week she’ll heal back up. Good luck and happy growing:)

Thanks for your reply!! I pretty much staked it as close as I could... when I dug down (inch at the very most), there were roots in several different directions, and I didn't wanna sever one. After I staked it with the pipe cleaner, I firmly packed soil around the back side. I have the fans pointed up already to help cool the light (Mars Hydro TS1000), so it's not getting it.. I learned that lesson when the fan alone was starting to determine how the leaves were growing! Once again, thanks so much for your help!

you just did your first root pruning, all good it grows back,i got a tip for you if you want it,next time take the pot the plant is in or same size pot,if your gonna use rocks in bottom of the pot your transplanting to do so about 1in thick is what i do,then spread some of your soil on top of them, about another inch deep or so,take some rooting powder and spread lightly on soil top, then take the empty pot or your plant in container and sit it down in middle of the pot, take soil and put in around your pot, every couple inches or so just take fingers and lightly pack it in around your pot,do this to you get to the top ,you should have firm but not packed soil at this point, then take the pot with plant and gently wiggle it out of the hole,it will leave the imprint of that pot ,more rooting powder along the sides and bottom, then take your plant and flip upside down in your hand and pull the pot off, flip back around and straight up and gently put it in the hole, once in press it down were you get soil contact and after the girl in and done,

THIS is why I love this site!! Out of everything I've seen and read, I've never heard of rooting powder, not heard of rocks being used on the bottom! Love the idea and understand why it works, just never saw, not thought to do it. Thanks so much for your response and taking the time to educate a not so young newbie! Good growing!
