on my ebay list i have a viparspcter 600 watt light and ipower 6 inch inline fan those 2 things alone would be just about 300 and that is without a tent all im getting at here is it is not always cheaper to buy separate View attachment 986563View attachment 986564View attachment 986566
Apples and oranges. The individual equipment you have highlighted here is completely different from what is in the kit. Look at how cheap the inline fan in the kit is compared to the ipower one, and even two of the kit's lights arent as good as the viparspectra.

My advice is start with what you can afford spending most of the money on the most important. For that price i don't feel you can go wrong. Even if ya get 1 grow with this equipment it will pay for itself and then some possibly even 3-5x depending where you live. Its not the most ideal but from a cost vs gain perspective i think it will be hard to beat. I agree with @FourthCity about the blurples but again cost vs gain hard to beat. If yo can make 1 solid grow in this it will more than pay for upgrades.

Having done a fair bit of hydro and now just starting a soil grow I would recommend coco if you have the time to water. There is a couple ways to do it, high frequency watering in smaller pots or larger pots requiring less. It has the benefit of less equipment than hydro yet still the ability to control like hydro. I have not grown in coco yet but there are some very talented growers here that could help you get on your way who do if you decide. Coco also has growth rates like hydro and I can tell you first hand there is a significant difference in growth rates between the 2.

A ph and TDS meter will be tools you should get and use often. I suggest a PH meter that can be calibrated. PPM meters are usually much less finicky and less problematic so almost any will do.

If you had the money I would be with @threatco I'm an absolute lover of RDWC and the growth rates are out of this world but with that said I think hydro should only be RDWC as the individual buckets get to be a lot of work later in flower and with the lower overall volume of water to work with it gets a bit more challenging.

If you choose soil there are plenty of great indoor soil growers here and many different mixes as options.

I think its good to start small and cheap then you learn what you like about your grow and what you don't like. At that time you can invest more money into what suits you but this is a good option to get your feet wet and I feel if things go well you will be upgrading after the grow. But if not then atleast your not out a buncha money.
I agree that even the blurple lights can pay for themselves but I dont see the benefit of investing money in an outdated product that even you allude to replacing after the first grow, especially when there are now better alternatives at the same price points. What is the cost vs gain of going with any blurple vs something like this?

OMG dude I have smoked about quarter every 2 days for the last 20 years

You can harvest in 1 tent 3 times a year lets say.

121 days between harvests.

You smoke about 423 grams in that time.

Getting 500g per square meter is the high end of what heavy producing strains can potentially get.

You've got 62% that much space.

310 grams is the high end of what can be prduced in that tent.

Hope that helps you with deciding whether it is worth the time or money to invest in various upgrades or techniques that are suggested

Long story short spending more time or putting more effort in will not end up being Overkill

If you look at it only as a upfront cost versus ppfd coverage blurples are still King. You have to consider other factors like efficiency Spectrum coverage and heat before QB win the day.

The blurples run hotter (notice they all have fans?) and are less efficient than full spectrum without being any less expensive, they are not king in any way shape or form. Im not telling you that you need to go out and replace your blurples if you want to have a good grow, what I'm saying is that if you need to buy new lights right now there are much better options that wont really cost any more.

@FourthCity I agree ideally there are options that are comparable in price but they are still slightly more expensive and the shipping time and cost is pretty nuts right now. And yes growing with light then replacing is not cost effective but if there is not the $$$ to do so then its not an option and after a grow they can be replaced or used elsewhere like propagation or sold to a friend etc. so its not always a loss. Plus if he decides growing is not for him or has major issues with the grow and says fuck it then its at minimal cost. I think we all have some equipment we bought laying around because we have upgraded.

Believe me I personally would not buy a blurple light but if something happened and im on a budget starting over im getting the most watts at the cheapest price over spectrum all day long. Then when ya cash in back to the good stuff. Can always find a use for old grow equipment and handy to keep around incase something goes wrong. But i do agree with what your saying.

I guess I just think that at less than $155 shipped for a 240 watt, samsung diode, white light, full spectrum, with far red and a meanwell driver there isn't a better "cheap" alternative for led no matter what budget you are on. Any less than that and you are better off with an hps.
the vipar light says it is full spectrum
I should have specified white light full spectrum, my mistake.

I guess I just disagree with where you said blurples are not less expensive. I would say definitively they are.

350$ is a good deal to get 2x 240w QB with needed features from one of the better Alibaba sources with shipping. 0.73$/watt

I can get 2x King Plus 1500w blurples for 300$ including shipping, which is 260 true watts each. 0.58$/watt

How much more efficient are they really? Well, there is not an easy exact answer to that. But if you check the PPFD charts, you will see the coverage you will get is higher with the 300$ blurples, vs the 350$ QBs.

Those electricity bills will catch up with you. But from an upfront perspective, there is a reason there is still a big market for it.

that 500g/ 1 square meter expectation is based on having a perfect canopy to optimize light usage.

Could be 2-4 plants, trained to branch out and make a flat canopy using the whole space. (SCROG)

Or could be lots of little plants, (SOG)

The key here is when looking from the lights point of view, you see a flat even canopy, with all buds an equal distance away.

Lets not shit on this thread over the LED guys. I think we have enough info here for him so lets try to get back to the task at hand. Helping him make an informed decision. You both make valid points and i don't wanna have to start cleaning it up thank you đź‘Ť

You are not reading it wrong, I figured its worth the extra $6 too. I posted the link earlier but I guess pm me if you have any questions as Aquaman said we have already discussed it enough in this thread.

Nah i know bro. we (by we i mean myself included) just drifting off a bit and only dealing with LED opinions which is important but seemed like we have our views and was getting more into the debate than info aspect. By all means providing info in the thread is absolutely ok.

I have had my share of debates so I just kinda seen it may get a bit derailed is all

Well can we all agree that chopped up soda can looking pos inline fan that comes with the kit is a hard pass? The tent itself ok, I think op should be able to get that for around $75 by itself, it would be worth going with a 48x48x71 (they are about the same price) if you have the extra space though.

What is funny about the re-railment of the convo is that the question of what fan is needed also mostly comes down to choice of....... lights. *ducks*
