Hey guys,

Sorry if this is a dumb question or I haven't been specific enough as I'm currently midway through Uni final-exams.
I recently transplanted two of my jiffy pellets into 4L pots about 4 days ago and haven't watered them since. The soil still seems semi-moist.
I just noticed yellow brown spots on the tips of the bottom leaves. It doesn't look too severe but I don't want my plants to die while I'm studying so I'd like to know what it is
If I were to guess I would say a magnesium or phosphorus deficiency but I'm a newbie so I can't say for sure.

Some info:
-I've noticed a few tiny flies in my grow space and one time spotted a brown round shaped bug in the soil and killed it.
-Some of the other seedlings have small white faded spots on the leaves.
-The seedling in question is about 17 days old, I haven't fed them anything besides water and half-strength rhizotonic.

spots look like start of a calcium deficiency, light green could be mag deficiency, maybe try a light dose of cal mag?

I'll have to go get some then. How long can I leave it before it becomes an issue do you know?

i'm a new grower so hopefully a more experienced member will also share their thoughts, but i just dealt with a calcium deficiency and the pattern is similar, it will get worse over the next weeks if not addressed, as it gets worse i guess it will also be easier to determine what it is. google pics of calcium def's at different stages to see if its the same as it progresses. cal mag is a good thing to have anyway as you will need it so good idea to get some now

sorry i cant be more help. wouldnt want to give you wrong advice so perhaps a good idea to wait for other members to give opinions.

In my opinion your soil's too fresh to have any deficiencies; what's your pH?

Excess N blocks Ca. Perhaps the soil is too hot for a seedling? I would strongly suggest resisting the urge to keep adding things with a plant that young 👍

I'm seeing good growth from these seedlings anyway so I'm hesitant to add anything just yet. I've included some updated photos. My grow diary is also in my signature so feel free to check it out and offer me any advice you can

Also Its worth noting that I've used the same soil my straight to soil germinated solo cup seedlings and they're not showing any of these symptoms at all so I doubt its the soil. Only the transplanted jiffy pellet seedlings show these yellow brown spots. Is its possible its from overwatering as I pre-wet the soil a lot prior to transplanting and it's still somewhat moist?

6.0 is getting low, I keep mine between 6.4 - 6.6 for best results, recommend you read up on Dolomite lime to raise and stabilize soil pH;

I don't see the white faded spots but what I do see I suspect is pH related, possibly caused by pH fluctuation, here's a suggestion for drops that are more accurate than the type you're using

Hey so I just stumbled across this picture
1604494625029

Is this why you recommend 6.5? Are the yellow-brown spots on my plants caused by an inability to absorb calcium due to low pH?
Also instead of pH drops I was considering a pH meter? How cheap can they be without getting too inaccurate?
Also would pH up and down be fine? Might go to the hydro store soon and pick up some along with supplemental nutrients

I'm a coco guy but everything I've read about ph says the soil guys should aim for 6.5 👍

You've at least got it down to a calcium issue and that's good. The deformed leaves and spots are the classic symptoms. Now narrow down the cause. Cannabis has a hard time with Calcium at low ph levels so you're def on the right track I think.

So to raise my soils pH is it fine to purchase some pH up solution, dilute that with tap water and then feed a little bit too my plants at a time till the soil reaches 6.5? If the pH up specifies it for hydroponics is it safe to use for soil? The ingredient it lists is potassium carbonate.
I also found a ph test kit similar to the one listed by @Beachwalker made for testing 6-7.6, but it looks like its made for pondwater. What would you consider more accurate the 6-7.6 test kit or something like the cheap meter seen in the photograph below

Ok so after doing some reading I think I'll go with scratching some dolomite lime into the surface of my soil and watering it in. Is there anything I'm missing or should be concerned about? How soon should I do this before the calcium deficiency effects my plant? In future should I mix some lime into the soil before transplanting so I don't encounter this problem again?

Those probes are useless, buy the pH drops, drops are the standard
