Hello, I'm looking for suggestions for a good dehumidifier for a 5x5x6 tent. I bought a mini dehumidifier that was supposed to be good for like 195sqft but it did not seem to do anything at all. I'm assuming I need a larger range because of the air exchange in the tent. I have a 290 cfm inline fan with a carbon filter. Is there a calculation for this that I've missed somewhere? It's going into the rainy season where I live and my autos are starting preflower so I need something soon. Thanks!

Ok I don't want to start no stuff, these are only my opinions. Take them with a grain of salt.

I had my first indoor plant in 1989. Since I've grown several methods and techniques. From organic soil to hydroponics...I've been there. I have NEVER used a humidifier or a dehumidifier. There is no need for either.

If the room or tent is to humid you simply move more air. If the room is to dry you move less. You need a bigger fan with the ability to control it based on temp and humidity.

I don't think 290 cfm is enough for a 5x5 but Idk for sure. I use BIG fans then turn them down as needed. My flower room has five fans running when lights on and three when the lights off in a 4x8 space.

I keep a dry room because I literally pack the plants in and we all know what happens if you do that in a wet room. Move more air, skip the dehumidifier. Move less air, skip the humidifier. Again in my opinion.

Is your temp affected much when the fans adjust to humidity? I would think when lights are off the fans would work more because of the higher humidity at night. Do you use a space heater or heat it more at night?

I have a "lung room" to pull fresh air from. Its in a heated/cooled basement that stays right around 72F all year round with a RH of right around 30%-50%. As it is now because I have the space so packed full of flowering plants, I keep the extraction fan going 24/7. I only need fresh air intake while the lights are on in the flower room. The room just gets passive intake during the dark hours. I run around 720 cfm exhaust split between two 4x8 rooms. And like I said to keep it nice and dry in there I run it 24/7 when there are so many plants bunched together. I also keep two oscillating fans blowing over the canopy and under 24/7 for when the plants do transpire.

I was also thinking that this may all be different if growing in a tent...Idk. Also I don't grow in a rain forest or nothing, I live in Detroit, Michigan. If i was a in a more humid climate I'm sure my opinions about dehumidifiers would change...just sayin I'm open minded.

Yeah I’m still trying to perfect mine too. I have a lung room, spare bedroom 8x10. I’ve got a 3x3 in there with a controlled 4” exhaust. Just using passive intakes right now. I have a floor vent for a/c & heat in the bedroom with an ac infinity floor vent that I can turn up to bring more warm or cool air in there, but still control the main ac from the living room. I have all the gas (humidifier, dehumidifier). I think all I may have to end up doing is running the oil heater I’ve got during lights off.

This is only my 3rd grow, but I know this time my environment should be better than it ever has been, we’ll see!!!!!!

Those small dehumidifiers don't utilize compressors-they work using the "peltier method" and are extremely inefficient. If you bought a 30-50 pint proper dehumidifier with compressors, you'd be amazed at the amount of water they pull out. I run mine 24/7 in a 400 square foot space and I empty it 4 times per day, though I could set it up to drain directly down a drain, I like seeing how much water I dump out. I just set mine to 50% humidity and I'll only change it when I dry, to hit my target drying %.

I have 5 tents in a 8x10 lung room. If I keep the room 74 at 55% rh I can fine tune each tent from its exaust as well. I use window AC and the building's heat. 👍

Like said above, if you move enough air it's not an issue 99% of the time

After a couple grows, I’m slowly figuring it out lol. Honestly my first grow, I was adjusting the light to adjust temps LOL.

Just to add one last thing. In the winter where I am the rh drops to 30-40% indoors so I will vent a veg tent back into the lung room instead of outside to make up the difference until spring 👍

The plants themselves acting like a humidifier

Adjusting lights works for me. Too cold take out led and replace with hps. Too hot take out hps and use led. Mix and match as needed. The plants love it. The programmable cloudline really helps too.

Yeah, I definitely want to try both when I get a bigger flower tent. I was talking about adjusting the intensity of my led. I was turning it up to build heat and lowering it to lower temps lol.
