Hello all !

I've been reading the forum for a while a decided to register because I'd like to ask some advice on a greenhouse project.

I would like to purchase a 8 x 6 x6.5 ft tall greenhouse and I have 3 clones to place in it. I could grow legally up to 4 but I wasn't sure if 4 would be a bit too tight.
I never had clones growing in a greenhouse so I am not sure what to expect for plant size/height. They are about 13" tall right now.
I will grow them in 20 Gal fabric pots.

I decided to grow in a green house because I could keep the plants on the sunnier side of the garden ( S-SW facing ) but it is also the side that is visible fromthe first floor of my neighbor's house.
I think the green house next to our vegetables garden can be more discreet.

thank you

Welcome.

My wife says size doesn't matter. I hope she was talking about weed plants, because in that case, she's right.

Your plant size is dependent on pot size. 4 plants in 2 gallon pots should be good in your greenhouse and give you room to move. I suggest you top your plants at about a foot tall. Then top the resulting two branches once more when they get to about 6 inches. That'll give you nice bushy plants.

Be prepared to keep the door open during the day and put a fan in there because it'll get super hot and will likely kill your plants. In any case, read up on your strain and look at the environment it needs.

Good luck.

You can probably fit four in there. I think the height will be the challenge.

thank you both for the replies...It seems like we are moving up with size for the GH and get a the next size at 10' x 10' x 7' high. We'll have a couple of raised bed in there for veggies and the other plants on the fabric pot kind of in the center area....I should be in a better situation with space no.
the clones are about a foot tall now, so I'll go ahead and prune them at the top. I'd prefer to keep them lower and bushy, maybe tie and train some branches if space allows.

With the 10x10 you'll have ample space. However you may run into shading issues in the garden beds. Is this a hoop house or a gable style? Depending on placement of the house and planting orientation you can avoid some of the shade issues.

gable style greenhouse. It's a Shelter Logic greenhouse, their 10' x 10' ...I'm thinking of having the raised beds, maybe two of them (2 ' x 8') along two corner sides and place the plants on fabric pots in the center-ish area of the GH.
The GH gets sun from about 1130/12 until pretty much sunset..
I've attched an image with a rough plan, maybe the plants can be not so inline with each other and be more staggerd to avoid potential shading. I'll try to keep them at a reasonable height...I have two mostly indica hybrids and 2 mostly sativa, so I was thinking to place the sativas on the back row.

Sorry if I was too vauge. I don't think you will have many shade problems with your main crop. I think your vegetable beds will get shaded out. And especially with the available hours of direct sunlight. Might be a great spot for summer lettuce. I would also take Tycho's advice about ventilation. One suggestion I will put my name to is investing in a decent strenth rope to zig zag across the top of the house and along the sides if you have roll up sides. Depending on the purlin situation you can put .25in x 4.5in eye bolts through bolted the main rib sections for extra structural support and use those as anchor points for the ropes. I use 5/16in woven poly chord on all the hoop houses I've built. It cuts down heavily on metal to plastic friction durring winds and lets you get a couple extra years out of the cover. It also makes it very easy to slide a shade cloth over the house. Not that you will need shade cloth, most of the guys I've built greenhouses for are vegetable farmers.

I'd up the pot size, 20 gal to 45 will fill the space and make the grow easier and more forgiving of any lapses

i use 20-25 gallon pots in my greenhouse. I have a 8x12x8 and i can get 6 plants in there but its tight. Height is the main issue, i would hold off on the beds to give your plants more space. get a ring for the pots and keep tying them down. they will get huge in the greenhouse.

What temperatures do you get mid summer?

If I grow in mine, they get hammered by the heat. I'm in Eastern Ontario at Lat45 and shit gets serious in there mid summer (110-130f+) for weeks. I purchased a 12v RV ceiling fan I'll install to see if that helps.

I haven't tried my Honduran or Swazi in it yet, and someone gifted me Drakensburg Gold. Maybe they'll do better.

I have 2 fans running, it will get over 100 some days but they dont seem to be too bothered by it. I do end up watering twice a day if its really hot

Do you have roll up sides?

thank you all for the suggestions !

@Farmer88 the rope addition sounds interesting, I will look into it. If I understand correctly, the rope will run on the outside of the cover material of the GH not inside....

I'm planning to have the door open most of the time if needed, it is facing the house and not visible from other angles....I'll have to close it when our kids friends are passing by for example, but most of the time I should be able to ventilate and have a swinging fan to move the air. I hope that with this and the bottom part rolled up I'll be fine.
I'm located in the west side of Oregon, Portland area...it gets hot sometime in full summer, last year we had a few days on the high 90's but it didn't last that long.

The raised bed will be used later in the season too so I may as well build them and place them and see what can grow in there...we have a few others outside the GH where we are growing most of the veggies.
The GH is mostly to keep the Cannabis plants more undercover and to keep them protected if the season turn rainy at the wrong time towards the end of flowering. Since I'm putting it together I'll make an extended use of it later in the season and as transfer area from some indoor grow I'm planning to do in winter.

I only grew guerrila style in the past and this is the first time in my life that I live in a place where I can have a few plants and not worry too much, so this is a real luxury for me.
The things we had to do to get to harvest seem now an epic.....I'm excited to see how they'll grow in the GH.

I have already the 20Gal pots , probably not filling them up to the top. I bought a bunch of FFOF, I've read a lot of different opinions on this soil so I don't intend to pen another thread about it..... I think it will do fine, I'll add a bit more perlite and a cup of dolomite per bag.
I was thinking about adding a little amount of worm casting or garden compost to add a bit more life to the soil. Then feed with natural liquid fertilizer when needed.
Trying to keep it simple a this first go, eventually I'd like to work on a good custom soil mix and follow the soil food web approach. I tried it in the past on a few indoor grows and had very good results.

thanks a lot Farmer ! it all looks clear now...I haven't received and built the GH yet so I'll have to see how I can attach the cord to the frame. I have been working in the garden the last couple of days and modified some of the layout.
I'm now able to move the GH to a location where it will get sun from about 10 am...the fabric of the GH I'm getting looks less transparent that the ones you are showing in the videos but the specs of it about light transmission and diffusion seems good.
