Can you add other nutrients to Happy Frog soil? Going to be repotting my girl into a bigger pot and was wondering if you can add other nutrients to Happy Frog soil, ya know?

-Smoke 'em if you got 'em!

I'm growing in Happy Frog right now. The guy at the hydroponics store said that with fresh soil, I won't need to add any nutes until they went into flower. So, except for liquid kelp foliar spray, I gave no nutes at all untill the second week of flower. And I'm still using ⅓-¼ the recommended dosages of nutes. The girls are happy enough, 48 days into flower, just starting to see occasional minor leaf discoloration.

Ignore babbling above, just that I didn't start adding minimal nutes to the soil until into flower (except kelp foliar). So far, all is well.

Yes you can, but it might not be necessary unless the plants need it. How old and big are they? got pics?

Yes. Yea you can.
I used Roots Organic Terp Tea Grow/Bloom/microbe boost in happy frog. Sold for seedlings as it isn’t as heavily amended as ocean forest

Dont know the strain, she started out as a baggie seed. Bought some Happy Frog, I mixed in blood meal and bonemeal as a base. First time growing, and I am just happy I've gotten her this far.

What's in the soil and I mixed in some blood meal and bone meal. That's about it.
I am a new grower but i am using ff happy frog soil. One seedling, outta 3, had a little burn on 1st round leaf. Nothing added. It recovered just fine. I didn't add anything till 1-2 weeks into flower, just like Newbie Ted. Soil seems to have enough nutes or whatever, In it for quite some time. A more experienced grower suggested to just look for yellowing of lower leaves before adding anything. Seems like good advice. Then I went 1/3 to 1/2 of recommended dose. Just like watering, less is better. Or more accurately, go light till you get the hang of it- reading the plant for it's needs. So yeah, x2 on above replies.

That’s weird, Ocean Forest is a hotter and heavier amended blend then Happy Frog. HF is great for starting seedlings to first feed after the first initial 3 weeks or so. But I am also not growing autos

By looking at mine could it be an autoflower?

Since this is in the Basic Grow thread, I’ll add that the “wait until it goes into flower” isn’t a very good matrix to judge when to fertilize. I presume Jaymz is growing indoors (from his pictures), so he may get to flower in 4-5 weeks. But if you’re growing outdoors it may be months before your plants go into flower and no way that Happy Frog is going to get you there. HF is wood (aged forest product), peat moss, perlite, and a little bit of fertilizer (.3-.3.-.05 primarily from worm castings & bat guano). It’s no super soil, not does it contain time released fertilizer, It’s just dirt. (And if you have to pay more then $15 for a bag, your getting hosed and will do just a well with something cheaper. Half the time I think the hydro stores are telling everyone how great it is just so they can justify charging crazy ass prices for dirt.)

Most commercial soils have enough food to keep your plants happy for a month or so. Sometimes less, sometimes more.
Fox Farms Happy Frog is not a hot soil. You will likely want to start feeding sooner. I use Ocean Forest instead, and it is a hot soil.

You can not just say, I'll feed at flower, the plant needs to eat just like we do. Unless you start with a hot soil, you need to supplement your waterings.
Your other option is to use an organic soil. Those you dry feed maybe 4 times thru the entire grow.

It's funny how many new growers are asking for help or advice, and the only responses that are given are from a bunch of assholes telling you their way is the best, and you suck. To all of you, sit on your plants, and spin around. 👍. Congratulations you figured out how to grow a plant that grows everywhere in the world. You deserve a balloon 🎈.

Hey bud, I've never used Gaia green. It's expensive in Michigan. Have you ever used Dr Earth? That's what I use with my happy frog/perlite/EWC mix (I like to keep things VERRY simple). Im curious if Gaia Green is better, if it's different, any advantages or disadvantages?
And I only grow autos in a 4x4 closet. Very simple setup seed to harvest. Appreciate it 👍

Personally i use about 1/3 of the label recommendation on gaia and never have an issue. That's how I afford it I use less and if you have a short veg happy frog can carry you until flower, at that point one top dress and h20 the rest of the way. A tip I learned was mix gaia in a maybe 1 inch worth layer of happy frog or whatever soil before you top dress it, just trust me there. Makes things so simple. Builda soil craft blend is on that same level. Build a soil is great for hands off h20 only grows. No nutes needed and if you use a 7 gallon pot like me. Then reuse the leftover soil it will still be viable and full of microbes so save money there as well, just get all the old roots out you can.
