Need Advice on Alternate Growing Method

In the past, I stayed with the old school method of growing the plants large and indoors. Typically the plants are over 6 ft tall and 4 of them fill up the 12x8 space fully under 2x 1000 HID lighting, using Promix in 5 gallon buckets. After 40 years, I have decided to try a different approach after being given a couple small plants during a regular growing session. The plant was about a month old when I got it and hadn't been pinched or split. I got the plant when my others were nearing the 2 month age, so the plant grew for a few weeks before it was turned to the 12/12 flowering cycle. I got nice buds out of both styles of growing, but this time I'm thinking about replacing the buckets with smaller half gallon pots and growing them for a month before flowering. Anybody do this in the past and have any comparison info? I have a million feminized seeds and I'm thinking of trying this method instead of growing them out.
This isn't to be confused with an auto plant, but I guess the end result would be about the same. What are some thoughts from experience?

Half gal is too small for me. I do small plants in 2 gal pots. Depending on strain, I get 1-3 oz flipping 2-3 weeks from sprout.

My new project Chem MacRiddle

Two weeks old today. I just transplanted and moved to 12-12. The seeds came from my #2 purple chem. I'm gonna breed one lucky guy to his auntie - #1 purple chem.
