I need some help managing my SCROG, and controlling the humidity in my tent.

Need advice on managing a scrog and humidity

I put the screen above the plants about a week before switching to flower (which was way later than I planned on) and I'm currently on day 10 of flower, and the plants are way too dense. I've defoliated a decent amount in the understory, and removed a few weak branches that were at screen level, but I'm not really sure how to proceed from here. Should I wait until the end of week three, and then get rid of the weakest branches until I have a reasonable density under the screen, or should I be removing branches now? And how should I choose which branches get rid of? Branches and leaves are currently all over each other.

I'm also curious about whether or not you guys think 12" of space between the screen and my light is enough. To make more space I would have to move my filter outside the tent, and have the exhaust pushed, rather than pulled through it.

The humidity in my tent is also consistently around 75%, if not significantly higher. The typical humidity where I live is about 65%, and always stays between 50% and 75%. This makes it hard to keep humidity low in the tent. I'm running the exhaust fan for two out of every 15 minutes, and have a dehumidifier hooked up to a controller set to 65% in the tent.

Does anyone have advice on how to get the humidity closer to ambient, and how to avoid fungal issues, because it seems inevitable that I'll have to run through flower at a humidity significantly higher than is ideal? I'm thinking I'll have to hook the exhaust fan up to the humidity controller, rather than the dehum, and just run the dehum constantly.

Any help with any of these questions is appreciated, thanks.

It is easier to condition the room that the tent is in and then intake from the room. I would put the dehuey outside the tent. I run the exhaust on all day and control fan speed with a temp controller. That way it is always drawing conditioned air from your room into the tent through the intakes and pushing hot humid air out. As far as 12" light clearance, it depends on what your lights are.

If moisture doesn't build up on the tent walls and you don't get fungus then humidity isn't an issue. Air flow and defoliate as needed. Or let the tent breathe conditioned air.

I'll move the dehumidifier outside the tent and run the fan constantly and see how that goes. How do you run fan speed based on temperature? That sounds like a great way to do things.

I'm running a kingbrite 320w at about 30DLI, and honestly I think the lights are already too close. Nothing's burning yet, but I had them about this close earlier in the grow and it was causing problems.

Thanks for the advice.

I use an inkbird wifi enabled temperature controller. It turns on my fan and shuts it off automatically. Has an app

The idea of the scrog is to allow your plants to become taller than your table top. Allowing plants to just grow through the top is trellising and not a true scrog grow. The idea is to put the limb below the table, spreading it out and allowing even light to every bud site. Anything that does not reach the top of the scrog table is to be removed. Most scrog tables stand between 18-24 inches. I don’t know what kind of light that you have, but once you flip to flower the plant will stretch. Expect to see it gain at least a third of it’s height now. At times I have seen an almost 100 percent stretch.

That makes sense, I’m wondering if @AKgrow has a different method though, because it sounds like his fan is constantly running, but can change speed depending on temperature. That seems like a good method to keep constant airflow while also regulating temp.

I’m employing the true scrog method, but as I mentioned I put it up a lot later than I wanted, and as such haven’t been able to manage it very well. I’m tucking every branch back under the screen to keep a constant canopy level. My problem is that there are too many branches and leaves, and the canopy density is very high under the screen, which makes me worry that fungal issues might pop up. I’m looking for advice on how to decide which branches to remove, and when to remove them. I’m now on day 13 of flower. The stretch has been very noticeable.

Yup.
You weave the branches below the net and allowing the budsets to run vertically across the net.
You get nice EVEN sized flower.
Even light distribution and intensity., Also the plants " plumbing" system operated more efficiently. All budsets recieve nearly the same amount of fluids.
Scrogging allows for better yields, easily 1gram per watt .

Looks like the canopy is trapping the moisture in.

You need to vent out from below and above the net .

You lollypopped and spread it out using a net.

Yeah, I put the screen on late in veg and started tucking branches under in scrog fashion. It’s lollipopped because I trimmed all the lower branches off when I realized the top few were going to easily fill all the area under the net. All new growth has been tucked under the screen, which is why things are so dense under there. Any advice on choosing which branches to remove in order to give things some breathing room?

I started running the exhaust on low speed 24/7 and it’s helped the humidity a ton. I also have two circulation fans below, and one above the canopy, which I think should move air around well enough? Are you suggesting running one exhaust fan above the canopy, and another below?

Depending on your experience...

We agree the rh is way out of bounds.

Take solid readings from above and below the canopy, that might identify moisture pockets if any.

If the incoming air going into the tent is already high in humidity, venting from the top or bottom won't help.

You would need to pump in dryer air.
Using LEDS has its pros and cons,, in your case, they don't generate enough heat to help dry the air.

I definitely understand what you guys were saying about trying to allow even light to every budsite now, I've had to trim a lot of leaves and smaller branches away for light to be able to penetrate well. I'll definitely try to follow a more proper scrog technique on my next grow.

Luckily humidity has been down where I live, and running the fan at low speed 24/7 has been keeping the humidity about 5-10% over ambient, so the max humidity as of late has been 60%. I also have more fans moving air around, so I'm less worried about fungal issues. I would still appreciate some advice on thinning things out more if that seems necessary.
