Got fox farm soil again for this grow, as I had very good results last time, this time I noticed all these tiny things walking around on my plant and in the soil, the plant is just a seedling and just got her second set of leaves and I don't think I can see any damage yet. I got as best of a video as I could, can someone help me identify them, and should I be concerned

their soil gnats and seems to be going on in ffof. What i would do is to scope the seedling out and carefully wash the soil off of it. its okay if the plant gets wet, matter a fact sprayy some neem oil on it and wash it again just to get anything thats on the plant off.

Than take your soil and cook on a heat of 160f for 20 min to kill any insects in there.
you can also water the soil with proxied and neem oil mixed and this will do it too, but cooking it is just faster since its a small seedling.

I heard boiling water was as effective as cooking since I don't have a good way to cook. Think that would be OK haha

whatever you do make sure the seedling is out of the soil. Also, don't plant it in your 5gallon fiber pot yet. maybe a plastic cup with few holes that way you are also not using allot of soil and you can prepare the soil before it goes in the big pot

Looks like aphids "bug b gone eco" it's a concentrated insecticide but pretty safe and easily found in home hardware stores or Walmart always good to have a bottle on hand before you water apply on top soil and so when you water it goes into the soil and when finished apply another spray....when soil is a lil bit dry a day or 2 later apply diatomaceous earth it will dry out any insects and the waxy coating they need the soil needs to be dry for it to work and just sprinkle the earth so you could see its every where dosnt need to be a think layer or anything I used this method from fungus gnats thrips aphids and it won't hurt or harm plants every effective continue until pests are gone

That’s a very fast moving bug. They say fast is a good bug ( if such thing ), I don’t like any bugs in my room. I know nothing about that soil, some soils come with predatory bugs I believe.

Cool ya that's my next plan, I poured a bunch of boiling water in my infested soil last night and left the little plant in a cup, hopefully that dose the job. Cause I'm not a fan of using insecticides, I had bad experience in the past, but I'll update in a few days to see if the boiling water did the trick

I hope it works out..... but I don't think it will would have been better doing pk1 method rather than boiling water might not hold the temp long enough to kill everything but the method I mentioned is safe and won't have any long term effects except not having the pests 😉 no trace amounts left in final product and safe for the family let us know good luck👍

So it's been two days now since using the boiling water and haven't seen any bugs yet, there was a bunch before using the water and not even a trace of them left. I'm still a bit paranoid some survived or were hiding in the tent somewhere but yet to see anything

Many soil companies put in predatory mites to attack any fungus gnat larvae or what not. A good rule of thumb is that anything that moves that fast, isn't after plants or roots. Mites that attack plants are slow movers and generally wont be exploring anything
