Haha! I think I found my answer... let me look into it a bit more. Haven’t heard it mentioned in any thread yet. Having to do with more chlorophyll left in the buds.

Under 9-10% curing is done.

What I read is that drying in anything under 60*F will leave lots of chlorophyll behind.
Don't dry below 60 that invites mold. What you don't realize is its not that big of deal. 60-65 @ 60% for 2-3 weeks is perfect. Dry at 72 @ 40 for 5 days doesn't mean your weed is ruined. If it taste like shit its because you grew shitty weed. I don't know how better to explain. Instead of worrying about drying shitty weed, concentrate on growing something worth drying.

The truth is very little I do will ever affect the quality more than a couple % points. On the other hand, quantity is greatly affected by what I do.
That's an interesting take that you don't read everyday. đź‘Ť

Just curious why you think colder temps invites mold? Last fall I dried whole plants in 45 degree temps with 50% humidity and the results were spectacular. I've found colder temps preserve the flavor much better than warmer temps. I believe it's the humidity and an unclean environment that will bring mold.

I used to trim the plant before drying and do the 70 degree temp and 55% humidity thing and did so for years and it worked well until I tried hanging whole plant with all leaves intact in 45 to 55 degree temps and 50% humidity. The results from the cool temps were so much better in taste that I have never gone back to trimming before drying. Only issue is it takes almost double the drying time in cool temps.

No. When you burp jars you are getting fresh air and oxygen required for the enzymes to break down chlorophyll and sugars. It also allows the bud to dry evenly and slowly. Try it. You might realize there’s a lot more potential to the buds you’ve been smoking.
You assume a lot. "Try it. You might realize......." You just trolling. I thought you were wanting information.

"with my test branches (so I don’t F up my whole harvest) I took the advise of “DON’T JAR TOO EARLY!” “ WAIT FOR STEMS TO SNAP” blah blah blah.... fucking wrong! It was a 10 day dry, nice and crispy but with some deep inner give when squeezed, jarred and burped for the past 11 days"
What kind of legit test was that. I said 1 week, 2 week, 3 week. You gave it 10 days. LoL.

Its kind of comical actually. I bet you would complain about the shitty dispensary herb. Yet you want to dry your herb just like they do it and get validation for that.

The pro's dry their PERSONAL herb the same way. Cut the plant whole and let it dry 2-3 weeks.
You are looking for the best results and have no legit baseline to even judge that from. Going by what you have said. Everyone is telling you the same thing here.
I do not even look at my drying herb till at least two weeks. Just leave it in my banker box humidor to do its thing.

The only time I burp a jar is reaching in to grab a bud.

Interesting. Never had issue drying in those temps, growing in those temps is a different story though.

That’s not assuming...that’s SCIENCE my friend. I don’t care how the “pros” do it, most of them also flush for weeks and let their plants sit in darkness for a week lol. But yeah, waiting 2-3 weeks would help get rid of the remaining moisture and let the chlorophyll and other sugars break down more.

On a side note... ”everyone is telling you the same thing”... thats where the problem lies leading to misunderstanding and misinformation getting spread around like the plague and regurgitated over and over. Just because the majority rules....doesn’t mean they are right. Or at least aren’t accounting for variables outside of their own personal growing conditions and experience. The way to learn something isn’t to just do what everyone else says, it’s more about gathering all information from multiple sources, sifting through, breaking it down and coming to your own informed conclusion based on evidence. Like I said before just because they’ve been doing it for years doesn’t make it right.

I like the cigar humidor idea. Do you use this alternatively to the jar and burp method? Or do you cure it first then throw them into the humidor?

I'm no expert by any means. I just read alot and always learning. Last spring I had a problem with bud rot on some large main colas. Since then I bought a hepa air purifier and dehumidifier. So far no mold this year.

I think the only issue would be if humidity was high enough for condensation to form on the buds since colder air holds less moisture.

But again, if 59*F and under result in more chlorophyll left in the bud maybe it’s best to dry above 60*F

You used that ripoff snake oil to grow shitty buds and you didn't flush - that's just wrong.
You like science; maybe you should study up on how different soils and nutrients(or lack of) affect taste.

The assumption was you saying I need to try something, like I hadn't already....mmmkkayyy.

"I don't care how the pro's do it" seriously man, not trying to argue with you, but seriously did you really just say that? Really? That's a bad look man.

The misunderstanding seems to be coming from you bro. Not throwing shade man, you are trying to make this harder than it is, because you don't not have the experience yet and that's ok, its actually ok to say that, that's when you start to learn. We all had to.

Not waiting 7 14 and 21 days drying the herb was you diverging from science....observe measure repeat....you know a method.
You waited 10 days.....that's anecdotal at best.

Best of luck to you, seriously you will do well you have the passion, and soon enough the experience to go with it.

You’re wrong. The nutrients sucked, didn’t allow me to make adjustments, and there were some deficiencies. BUT.... I still ended up with trichome covered, amazing smelling buds that are potent as hell. The taste in the buds is simply moisture content and remaining sugars not yet metabolized by aerobic bacteria and enzymes.

This is the problem...guys that think they have all the answers and feel they are some sort of “authority” in cannabis growing. Lol. Figures. Well I’m sure you both have learned a lot just by thinking about the points I’ve brought up, because I’ve done and continue to do my research and understand certain aspects youve never thought to ask.

I'm no authority on anything. But I do know the importance soil and nute types play on flavor-it's a big deal. To say it doesn't matter is wrong.

I learned mostly by trial an error and still learn something new everyday. Flavor and smell are not a problem as long as i'm growing something that i enjoy smoking. I pretty much do what everyone has been advising you to do as far as drying/curing is concerned. I don't think anyone is coming off as an "authority". In fact, all i see is folks with years of experience graciously trying to guide a new grower. Everything you're frustrated about has been answered numerous times already. I think @growsince79 summed it up best, when he said "grow something that is worth drying". That should at least get the gears grinding.

I wish someone held my hand as much when i was first learning.
