Never grown hatch chilies. This years peppers were variety cayenne so not super hot, typically I’ve grown jalapeños, and cayenne.
these are similar to anaheim peppers, though they've been bred to produce more heat. The variety I have I'd wager are referred to as "Doublecross" or comparable. Spicy bastards for sure. But, there's nothing quite like the flavor after you roast em, peel em, and throw em in whatever dish.

The flavors mix well with just about anything and with them being hot, you can easily adjust the spiciness to your liking without too much trouble.

Can't guarantee the taste will be the same as there's something quite unique about the Hatch valley in NM that makes these chiles so legendary, but I'm gonna be trying to run some in rockwool over the winter once this run wraps up then outdoors next summer.

EDIT: you can buy packs of seeds here

They stay pretty compact? I wonder if I could grow in my aerogarden. Keep me posted on how they turn out, I’d be keen on giving them a go.

like a typical pepper plant. maybe 3' max. they're not a vine type (i don't think any capsicum are vine types) and they don't get super big. from what i remember going to the fields as a kid, they were like knee high on a grown ass 6' tall terrifying looking Mexican lol

I've got some Green Bell Peppers and Serrano Chili's going this year which at first were devastated by spider mite outbreaks. I finally got those under control and then they were devastated by Japanese Beetles. I'll get some produce from those but FFS the bugs won this year on those 😥.

I've also got 3 Sweet 100 cherry tomato plants and 3 Big Buddy Tomato plants which are all doing well.

We live on 1/3 of an acre and I have decided to build some raised beds out back. That's where the Tomatoes are. The peppers are up front and in view of the porch and garage lights which is why I think the beetles got them so bad. I'll be moving the papers to the back next year when I get beds for those built.

Some nice looking tomatoes @MichiganHooligan, sliced up tomato with fresh slice mozzarella, and balsamic reduction, little salt and pepper. So good.
Nothing better than vine ripened homegrown tomatoes.

Garden pics of the day.
