First of all, sorry for the long post, I shouldn't have gotten stoned before writing. 🤪

So these are some of the things that I have learnt from my 1st grow and the amazing THCFarmer community which will take to my next crops. It has been a fantastic experience so far and I am looking forward to harvesting my first fat indoor nugs in about 5 weeks. There is loads of shit info out there but these are some of the things that have helped me the most in my journey so far.

Setup
As a rule of thumb buy the best quality products as your budget allows and prioritise your light, then your extractor fan and then your carbon filter. These are the things that will ensure fat buds, enough fresh oxygen and that you don't stink out your entire building of weed (presuming that this is a consideration)

Plan your setup well, research what you will or might need and get it all ready before you plant any seeds.

Record the relative humidity in the room where your grow will be set up to see how you will need to manipulate the environment. Will you need a humidifier/dehumidifier? Will you need heating or ac? You don't want to be rushing out and buying these things in a panic midway through your grow. They can be really expensive and you need to plan for them in the setup stage, I recently had to drop 200€ on a dehumidifier which I could have gotten much cheaper if I had time to shop around 2nd hand ones.

Budget for some kind of emergency watering system. I have done lot's of research into automatic watering systems where you add the nutes etc and everything is basically done for you. This is not what I am talking about. From what I have read these types of systems can come with their own sets of problems such as bad bacteria build up an so on. Anyway that is a different debate. What I am talking about is a cheap automatic watering system that cost like 50€ on amazon. This means if for some reason you can't be there to water them once or twice they won't die. These cheap systems can't handle nutrient enriched water as the pipes get clogged but they do ensure that your ladies won't die if you can't make it home for whatever reason and don't want to ask people to go and water your trees. I have had more than one occasion where one of these bad boys would have reduced the massive anxiety of missing a watering.

Light
As above research your light well and always buy it from a reputable company with a warranty. If you can't afford a decent light and want to grow good weed, wait and save up some cash. It is literally the sun for your plants and if it is not up to the job everything else is for nothing. Considering the cost of just the electricity and nutrients, not to mention the time and energy you will have to put in watering, training, pruning, caressing and singing to your babies (😜). All this will be for nothing if you don't have a light which provides the energy for your bud to grow bushy and strong. Also consider LEDs, they are more expensive for a decent light but you will save money in the long run with lower electricity bills and not having to replace anything often. You also run into less problems with heat in the environment. My light is about 8cm away from the top colas and the plants have 0 signs of light or heat stress.

Nutes
I am by no means an expert in this topic but I would recommend organic nutrients all the way especially if you are a beginner. They are way more forgiving if you fuck up and avoid problems such as nutriant lock out and salt build up in the root system. This also means you don't have to water until run off so save money on the extra nutrients needed to do this.

Remember you are putting the end product into your body as well so if you can why the hell not go organic.

I use biobizz nutes and haven't had a single problem since day dot.

Soil
Don't over complicate it when you are starting out. Just buy good orcanic soil from a good company with a proven track record with a base ph of between 6.2 to 6.5 (this information is generally on the product info).

Water
You should alway try and give you plants water at 22c. This temperature is optimum for the plants to ingest nutrients. Between 22 and 23c is fine. Invest in a digital thermometer they are really cheap and ensure the perfect feeding temp.

Your water pH should be between 6 and 6.8. Get hold of a cheap testing kit for Hydroponics they are a few euros for like 200 tests. You don't need to invest in specialist products to adjust ph. My tap water has a pH of 8 and I bring it down to the desired range by adding 1ml of white wine vinegar per litre of water. Works a charm. Save money where you can for the light hahahahaha

Random stuff I have learned, and wish I knew before.

Know the limitations of the space you have available, I had to hack down a massive white widow plant because I didn't have space for it. That sucked.

Plan your light schedule to coincide with times you would normally tend to your plants. I was so excited that I was moving them to flower I accidentally set the timer to go dark at 5pm to 5am meaning I had to mess around with it which was a massive pain in the nuts.

Remember when accounting for space in the tent that the plants double in size during flower. Don't leave them in veg too long or you will be fighting against the fucking jungle and managing the environment becomes a nightmare.

You should try to dehumidify air before it enters the tent and avoid placing the unit inside the tent. It takes up precious room in the grow space, creates heat and due to air flow has to work double hard for half the results.

You can prune, defoliate and train plants up until their last 2 or 3 weeks of flowering. They will not suddenly shrivel up and die if they are good healthy plants, I was so nervous of messing with them when they fist went into flower without the need to be. Don't start hacking at them with a machete but proper pruning and defoliation during flowering can really improve your buds.

Fabric pots help to eliminate root balling which can suffocate a plant.

Don't over think things, they are a living being and you will know when they have a problem. Create an environment that they can thrive in, to the best of your ability, and you will reap the rewards.

Growing should be fun and a learning process, if you make a mistake learn from it and move on. If your plants are from good stock and well fed they are resilient and can cope with the odd fuck up.

Thanks for the giveaway PhlizonGrow, peace ✌
