Water till run off with fox farms ocean forest.

So I’m using fox farms ocean forest. I just transplanted my gals into their final 5 gallon pot. Now I’m just using water no nutes. Do I have to water till run off? Or is that just what you do when using synthetic nutes, to flushe the salts away?

I water to run off with my 5g FFOF plants.
It is just how you know you are watering the whole pot IMO.
I use synthetic nutes, but am not a flusher.
You only need to flush if you over ferted IMO.

Whenever I transplant I water with some CloneX until I get runoff from all sides (using fabric pots) but I also transplant when I feel they're a little thirsty

Every time water runs out of the bottom of a pot the water takes valuable nutrients with it. I don't allow any runoff with Fox Farms for that reason. I keep my runoff limited because I'm saving the amendments in the soil for the plant to use in the future. Now after a while, you will need to give your plant a light dose of nutrients. When you give your plant fertilizer you can allow runoff. FOXFarms Hold your run off to feed your plant.

Hmm I am going to have to water my fabric pots pretty slow to not get runoff. Plus it helps knowing that you've gotten an area saturated and easily check runoff

salts do build up ... dunno FFOF seems to start super hot but maybe because I am watering until good runoff happens I can give full strength nutes pretty quickly without them getting burnt.

I am gonna reduce my watering on one and see how that affects it. :)

Using Foxfarms the ppm can run up to 4000 ppm and look like a lot of salt build-up. It's not the same kind of salt as synthetic salts. The high ppm are mostly unavailable salts waiting for conversion into nutrients the plant can use later. If you wash these nutrients out then you lose them at a faster rate. I hold my runoff all the way to the end of the grow keeping the ppm around 1200.

Knowing the amount of water your container holds is key in holding on to the runoff. If I give my plant 3 liters of water when the container only holds 2 & 1/2 then I can expect 1/2 liter runoff. Knowing this I can keep run off to a minimum.

How often are you watering? It sounds like you're watering too soon and too fast.

I water with a pump sprayer and i never pump it to full air capacity so i never get a blasting stream. It also helps if you water just enough to get like the top inch or 2 wet, then wait 5 or 10 minutes and water more. That way the water has time to absorb into the soil before adding more.

No need to ph water with ffof. It has ph buffers in it to keep the ph in check. You definitely wanna get a narrow spouted watering can or a pump sprayer imo. I never had luck with gallon jugs. Makes a mess.

I used a half gallon can with food grade tubing attached to the spout, and it was a pain every time. Switched to a garden sprayer this grow, and while it's slower, it's soooooo much easier to get an even watering.

Awesome reply’s. I asked this question cause the run off I was getting after transplant was really brown and I though I might be losin g some if the nutes I spent so much $$ on with ffof. When I start feed with bottle bites I will def water till run off to flush out any bad salts. But I will only water with zero - minimal runoff till I start feeding with bottle nutes

You don't want a ton of runoff with organic soil. I water slowly, give a bit, wait a bit, give a bit more, wait a bit more. I want a tiny bit of runoff just so I know I've saturated properly. I dump it back in if there's too much so some of the nutes get back in the soil.

i use 3 gallon fabric pots i water a half gallon in each pot no run off if i go more then a half gallon it drips out the bottom i do not understand this run off bro/sister science
